Upcoming Xbox Series X Games

As the Xbox Series X/S enjoys its latest year, Microsoft’s platform is gradually amassing a respectable library. Consoles typically do not start to flourish until the latter half of their existence, once cross-gen stops being a priority and developers can focus exclusively on crafting projects for only the most modern systems. The Xbox Series X/S has yet to reach that point, although things are moving in that direction.

The last few years have produced plenty of fantastic games, particularly in the open-world genre. Elden Ring, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands were all good or great 2022 releases, and they offered wildly different experiences from each other. The year’s successor largely followed suit with projects like Dead Space, Street Fighter 6, Hi-Fi Rush, Remnant 2, Forza Motorsport, and Lies of P. What Xbox games are coming soon? Which titles are expected to drop in 2024?

Updated January 17, 2024: As the year starts to pick up momentum, Xbox owners will steadily have more and more games vying for their attention. The upcoming Xbox games were introduced to the scheduler over the last few days: Lil’ Guardsman, Alisa: Developer’s Cut, Dead by Daylight: Alan Wake, Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, Jack Holmes: Master Of Puppets, Knights of Grayfang, Stumble Guys, Smite 2.

January 2024 Xbox Series X/S & Xbox One Games

Prince Of Persia, Like A Dragon, & More

As is often the case, January 2024’s opening few weeks are lacking in releases, although a few titles are scheduled to drop during that period. However, the month should pick up steam as it goes along, starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Now, admittedly, the spin-off game did not attract universal excitement at its announcement, but Ubisoft Montpellier’s resume is quite impressive. The developer is responsible for the last decade’s Rayman projects, which are both fantastic side-scrolling platform games. Hopefully, The Lost Crown is cut from the same cloth, and the game has garnered a very positive reception.

Toward the end of January, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Tekken 8 will be making their debuts on the same day, and they are both projects that can keep someone entertained for a long while. Sega’s Like a Dragon franchise has become synonymous with great storytelling, and there is nothing to suggest Infinite Wealth will fail to live up to the license’s high standards.

Suicide Squad, Skull And Bones, & More

2024 will get into the swing of things in the second half of January, leading to a fairly packed February. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Skull And Bones, and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft are just a few standout titles, and while they have not all had smooth pre-launch lives, they are nevertheless major names. Persona 3 Reload has a very good chance of being February 2024’s best Xbox game, and it will be launching directly on Game Pass. While Persona 3 is quite accessible in this day and age due to its many, many ports, the original game and its various versions show their ages in a few ways. Just to be clear, they are still worth playing; however, a modern remake should make this story more accessible to new players.

A new Rocksteady release should be a cause for celebration, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s hype has been muted due to a couple of polarizing showcases. At this point, the game’s reception and performance are difficult to predict, and it seems destined to either be February’s greatest surprise or biggest disappointment. Either way, its release should be interesting. The same can be said for Skull and Bones, although there seems to be little excitement around Ubisoft’s pirate-themed game.

Alone In The Dark, Dragon’s Dogma, & More

As 2024 advances, its future gradually sharpens. It is still too early to get a full picture of the calendar for the first six months, although it is not a barren wasteland either. March 2024 has quite a few big names scheduled for it, including Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Alone in the Dark. While the latter’s delays do not paint an especially hopeful picture, both of these releases are new additions to beloved franchises, so they should be big deals. Although they are a long way off from their debuts, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 and Black Myth: Wukong are also highly anticipated.

“Coming soon” can mean anything from a few months to a couple of years. Beyond Good and Evil 2, Dragon Age 4, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 are all in development, but players will have to wait patiently to learn when these games will be made available to play.

There are so many exciting announced projects that will eventually come to the Xbox Series X/S, some of which have revealed very little information about themselves. The Elder Scrolls 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Ark 2 are all highly-anticipated titles that could still be a long way off from becoming a reality, and these projects are just the tip of the iceberg.
