The Blades of Chaos are one of the most identifiable and iconic weapons in video game history and Kratos’ weapon of choice for many games. 12 Steel Handles

How To Unlock: Default Blades Of Chaos Attachment

The first handles that Kratos will unlock are the Steel Handles which are automatically unlocked at the start of the game. These are the original handles of the Blades of Chaos, and although familiar and reliable, they lack any real ability outside of being upgraded. Upgrade materials may not be the scarcest thing in the game, but that doesn’t mean players should waste them.

The Steel Handles are visually pleasing, but even at the highest level of level 9 they only hold a decent amount of Strength, Runic, Vitality, Cooldown, and Luck, ranging from 29 Strength and 17 on the other stats. It can be left aside.

11 Deadly Obsidian Handles

How To Unlock: Found In A Legendary Chest In Aurvangar Wetlands, Svartalfheim

• Slayer’s Rage Burst: Low LUCK chance to grant a Rage Burst on any Blades kill.

The Deadly Obsidian Handles are fairly decent, and they harbor the Slayer’s Rage Burst ability. This perk allows players to get extra Spartan Rage on kills performed with the Blades of Chaos that use these handles. They can be found in a Legendary Chest in one of the nine realms, Svartalfheim, perfect for those who want to constantly punch things in Spartan Rage.

These handles also prioritize Strength above all else, which that being the only stat that can be increased through upgrading the Deadly Obsidian Handles. Strength’s max level will be at 63 with these handles, meaning a powerful new weapon with not much versatility.

10 Pommels of the True Flame

How To Unlock: Purchased From The Dwarves After Visiting The Crucible, Muspelheim

• Runic Immolation: Increases the damage of the Blades’ Runic Attacks when the Immolation skill gauge is fully charged.

Whilst initially, the Pommels of the True Flame might sound like a greatly useful feat to those who do not use the Immolation meter, due to the fact that Runic Immolation boasts of increased Runic Attack damage for the Blades when that meter is full, it’s not entirely worth it for a few reasons.

Firstly, the damage is barely noticeable, and using Immolation is always a great way to win the fight against bosses because it will extend fire proficiency and damage capabilities. Players should aim to use Immolation when they acquire it, rather than hoarding it, as even getting hit once will make the meter lose charge.

9 Cursed Empress Handles

How To Unlock: Defeat The Hateful In Svartalfheim

• Power of the Empress: Low LUCK chance on any Blades hit to grant an increase of STRENGTH and RUNIC. (Stacks up to 3 times.)

Once players embark on the harsh journey to defeat The Hateful, they will acquire the Cursed Empress Handles. These handles belonged to an empress who challenged the gods and, in the fires of vengeance, assisted Kratos in a new challenge against the Aesir. Through the perk Power of the Empress, players will have a low Luck chance to grant a stack of Strength and Runic to the blades.

Strength and Runic can stack three times and is done through slashing with the Blades of Chaos. Upgrading the Cursed Empress Handles increases Strength and Luck to a moderate degree.

8 Radiant Warden Handles

How To Unlock: Crafted After Reaching Nidavellir In Main Mission “The Quest For Tyr”

• Whiplash Deflection: While charging Flame Whiplash (Mash Triangle), incoming Projectile attacks will be deflected.

If players rapidly hit R1, Kratos will swing the Blades of Chaos in preparation to release and unleash the Flame Whiplash ability. Radiant Warden Handles do something unique thanks to the Whiplash Deflection ability, and they allow players to deflect incoming Projectile attacks from enemies whilst Kratos is mashing the R1 button.

This is great for those who are against using a shield, or for those who are simply not focused on the fact that a hurling projectile is heading towards them. However, the lack of damage bonuses for this perk, means that the Radiant Warden Handles, aren’t exactly the best.

7 Luminous Recovery Handles

How To Unlock: Open The Legendary Chest In Nidavallir, Svartalfheim

• Whiplash Refresh: Flame Whiplash hits (Triangle >> R1) have a Moderate LUCK chance to grant a Blessing of COOLDOWN, restoring more Cooldown if fully charged.

Kratos may not be a gambler, nor may he know what a gambler is, but the Luminous Recovery Handles belonged to a legendary gambler. This is why these handles prioritize Luck and utilize Whiplash Refresh. This perk means that Flame Whiplash, an ability used with Triangle then R1, will have a good chance to grant Blessing of Cooldown, which allows Cooldown abilities to fully charge, which is great for causing more hack and slash to enemies.

Cooldown abilities are a great way to keep engaged in a fight. Kratos has many great lights and heavy runic attacks in God of War: Ragnarok and all are on a cooldown once used. Through using the Luminious Recovery Handles, players can ensure the cooldown is reduced and can find these handles in a Legendary Chest in Svartalfheim, with a decent amount of Strength, Cooldown, and Luck.

6 Pommels of Burning Unity

How To Unlock: Reward For Throwing Crystalline Shards In Vanaheim’s Wishing Well

• Burning Immolation: Increases all Burn status inflicted by 15% and increases the Immolation skill charge gained when striking a Burning enemy.

For those pyromaniacs out there, Pommels of Burning Unity are a great addition, due to the fact that they will increase the Burn status afflicted on enemies by 15%, and if players hit enemies effectively with the Burn status, then they will gain immolation charge. It’s a lovely synergy of flame that will keep enemies ignited and in burning pain thanks to the Burning Immolation perk.

While these attachments might not be for everyone, they certainly have their uses for those who want more crowd controls, as having a Burn status effect on enemies means that they will take more damage, and be somewhat vulnerable to further attacks.

5 Pommels Of The Undying Spark

How To Unlock: Legendary Chest Found In Jarnsmida Pitmines, Svartalfheim

• Scorching Burn: Increases the damage that the Burn status inflicts on enemies.

These powerful pommels focus on Strength and Runic upgrades. They were also forged in seething flame and radiated heat, despite the harsh temperatures of Fimbulwinter. This means that they have the Sorching Burn perk, allowing them to have an increased Burn status effect, and increased damage upon said burn.

The Pommels of the Undying Spark are located in a Legendary Chest in Svartalfheim and are a great way for Kratos to make the Norse mythology remember his name and his power, as fire will be unleashed to all those that are whipped and slashed by Kratos Blades of Chaos. At level 9, they hold an impressive amount of Strength and Runic damage.

4 Pommels Of Brutal Might

How To Unlock: Crafted After Main Mission “The Reckoning”

• Seized Strength: Stun Grabbing an enemy (R3) grants Gift of STRENGTH.

Stun is an important aspect of God of War: Ragnarok. Players can utilize their fists and attacks, or even the arrows of Atreus, to fill the stun meter on an enemy. Through a filled stun bar, players can click R3 and do a finisher, which is a brutal animation that kills the enemy. Pommels of Brutal Might feature Seized Strength, which grants the Gift of Strength to players who can pull off this R2 stun grab.

The Pommels of Brutal Might can also be crafted after The Reckoning quest on return to Freyr’s Camp. They specialize in Strength and Defence and certainly help Kratos in close-quarters battles and against some intense bosses.

3 Hardened War Handles

How To Unlock: Open The Legendary Chest In The Forbidden Sands, Alfheim

• Banishing Blade: The Hyperion Grapple and Hyperion Pull skills (L2 + R1) do extra damage and Stun.

The Hardened War Handles were forged in a fire so hot that they can never be melted. Their fire rages greatly, and as such, they have the perk known as Banishing Blade. This allows for the Hyperion Grapple and Hyperion Pull to do extra damage and stun. Both these abilities are done through L2 + R1 or L2 + R2.

As well as being found in a Legendary Chest in Alfheim, these handles grant a great amount of Strength and a moderate amount of Defence and Vitality at Level 9. The Hardened War Handles are great for players that enjoy stun or want to keep their enemies close, as both Hyperion grapple moves bring the enemy to Kratos for more damage and Spartan fury.

2 Pommels Of Agile Deceit

How To Unlock: Crafted After Main Mission “The Reckoning”

• Blade Dancer: The Spinning Chaos and Evasive Embers evade attack skills do increased damage and Burn to enemies.

Blade Dancer is the perk attached to the Pommels of Agile Deceit, which is a great perk for those that play both defensively and offensively. There is a lot of versatility with the Pommels of Agile Deceit, and they can be crafted after returning to Freyr’s Camp during The Reckoning questline.

These pommels have a moderate increase in Strength and Vitality, which will grant health and damage on top of the great Blade Dancer perk. Players will be utilizing The Spinning Chaos and Evasive Ember’s attack skills to increase damage and burn damage to enemies that are struck in this epic God of War game.

1 Pommels of the Nine Realms

How To Unlock: Defeat Hvitsekr The Bold

• Momentous Shift: Activating Furious Immolation (L1 + Triangle while Immolation is full) triggers a Realm Shift.

The Pommels of the Nine Realms are worth the fight to get them. Killing the Berserkers and claiming the great prize of Pommels of the Nine Realms will provide players with the Momentous Shift perk, which has great effects for those who know how to use it. If players are to activate Furious Immolation with the Immolation meter full, they will trigger a Realm Shift.

Realm Shifts are the way to win for Kratos, as they provide him with a delayed moment in time for his enemies, where they will be victim to his furious slashes with the Blades of Chaos. Slowing time is always a great ability, and these pommels can provide the perfect advantage against tougher targets.
