Palworld Developer Reveals Skyrocketing Server Costs, New Xbox Patch Released

Palworld is an extremely successful game, but success can have a rather steep cost, as revealed today by Pocketpair.

That being said, let’s start with something many players have been waiting for. The new update numbered v0.1.1.3 has been released for the Xbox and Windows Store version of the game, including Game Pass.

The patch notes are the same that we saw yesterday for Steam, so we won’t repeat them there. You can find them in our dedicated article.

Another really interesting detail about the game, to which I alluded above, is that Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe took to X (formerly Twitter) to mention the server costs the company is having to sustain.

As you can see below, they’re a whopping 70.53 million yen for a month. That’s over $480,000 at the current exchange rate. We also read that the cost increased by 359% compared to the previous month, obviously due to the server usage that has massively increased after the game’s release.

Palworld Server Costs

Mizobe-san (jokingly, I hope), wonders whether such massive costs could lead the company to bankruptcy.

The increase in server costs should not surprise, considering that Palworld has passed 19 million users of which 12 million on Steam and 7 million on Xbox. While things have calmed down a bit, the peak concurrent player counts have reached 2.1 million on Steam (according to the monitoring site SteamDB) and almost 3 million on Xbox.

Palworld is currently available on PC and Xbox, alongside Game Pass. If you’d like to know more about the reasons behind its meteoric success, you can read our hands-on preview.

The game is currently in early access, Pocketpair has already disclosed extensive plans for new features and content to add as development progresses. That being said, the developer also promised to focus on basic issues first.

If you want to play with your friends, you can rent a private server on SurvivalServers. Luckily, you won’t have to spend as much as Pocketpair does on that.
