Villains have always been important to the overall story. It is because of them that heroes have to train harder to learn more skills. Most anime villains, especially those in the battle shonen series, have ridiculous powers that make them extremely strong.

Naturally, they become arrogant as they believe themselves to be vastly superior to others, until a hero comes and beats them up. The sheer arrogance of these villains makes them detestable, but it matches their overall personality. These antagonists are so egoistic that their downfall is automatically counted among the best moments in a particular series.

8 Jogo

Fire Monster

Jogo was a Special Grade Cursed Spirit who worked with Mahito, Dagon, and Hanami. He had great hatred for humans, and he believed that Cursed Spirits were much superior to them. Jogo even used his powers to kill many innocent people in a cafe.

Jogo’s arrogance even caused him to underestimate other individuals. In one particular instance, the Special Grade Cursed Spirit thought himself to be better than Gojo Satoru. This mistake nearly proved to be fatal, as the sorcerer almost exorcised him. Jogo’s cavalier attitude ultimately led to his death at the hands of the Sukuna.

7 Mereum

Most Powerful Chimera Ant

Mereum was the king of the Chimera Ants. He was born with immense power, which made him a massive threat to humankind. Mereum was condescending toward everyone, including his bodyguards. He had a low tolerance for anyone who annoyed him or talked back to him.

For him, humans were nothing but food. He had absolutely no issue with killing them for entertainment. Mereum did undergo a change after meeting Komugi and playing Gungi with her. So he is comparatively less haughty than the other anime villains.

6 Kaido

The Strongest Creature

Kaido was one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. He was the captain of the Beasts Pirates, who were among the most notorious pirate crews in the world. Kaido had the power to transform into an Azure Dragon, with which he could lay waste to an entire town.

While fighting, Kaido was so confident in his strength that he didn’t even try to defend himself from incoming attacks. He would often let his opponents use their complete power and just tank one hit after another. His indestructibility often led him to try various methods of killing himself, including jumping from a sky Island.

5 Kibutsuji Muzan

King of Demons

Muzan was the main villain of Demon Slayer. He lived through multiple centuries, which gave him a great degree of experience. He also possessed exceptional intelligence, which only added to his overall threat. Muzan’s physical abilities were vastly superior to those of both humans and demons.

So, it’s hardly surprising that he was proud as a peacock. Muzan didn’t value human life, and to him, it didn’t matter how many people he had to kill. If someone tried to question him, Muzan would make sure that they would not live to see another day.

4 Madara Uchiha

Madara Uchiha used to be the leader of the Uchiha Clan during the Warring States Period. After being manipulated by Black Zetsu, Madara went down a path of bloodshed. He was confident that he could destroy everyone and everything who stopped in his path.

Following his reanimation, Madara had unlimited chakra, and he had access to the Mangekyou Sharingan and the Rinnegan. He was so confident in his abilities that he toyed with the Five Kage. He also defeated Sasuke with very little effort. Unfortunately for Madara, he was betrayed by Black Zetsu and left to die.

3 Dio Brando

Ruthless Vampire

Dio Brando is one of the most popular anime characters. He served as the main antagonist for two parts: Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders. Despite his poor upbringing, Dio had big ambitions, which he wanted to achieve at all costs.

Dio Brando even rejected his humanity for the sake of his goal. He killed people indiscriminately, and he was proud of it. Dio treated humans as if they were insects, and he believed he was superior to everyone else. When he came back in Stardust Crusaders, Dio was meaner and more conceited than ever. He met his end at the hands of Jotaro Kujo in Part 3.

2 Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is considered by many to be the embodiment of arrogance. During his days as a ruler, Gilgamesh thought of himself so highly that he put himself before his kingdom and subjects. Gilgamesh believed in no ideology, as he thought it beneath himself to follow someone else’s way of thinking.

He valued his entertainment a lot, and he would mercilessly slaughter anyone who got in his way. Gilgamesh was so vain that he believed himself to be the ruler of the entire world. He did not respect the authority of anyone else, and this did not change after his death.

1 Yagami Light

Genius Megalomaniac

Yagami Light used to be a regular student with no special abilities. But all that changed when he picked up a Death Note. Due to his high level of intellect, it didn’t take him long to learn about the Death Note and its power. After testing it out, Light got a massive ego boost.

He became a megalomaniac who believed that everything revolved around him. Light was under the impression that he was a god, capable of killing anyone he wanted. With every death, Light’s confidence kept on increasing, and it reached a point where he considered himself unstoppable. Eventually, his arrogance led to his downfall as he got careless.
