Re: Sutcliffe to run marathon while in U.K. with Ottawa Tourism, says it won’t cost taxpayers anything, online, April 3

I don’t know why Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is defending running in the London Marathon while he’s in the U.K. on an Ottawa Tourism trade mission.

Personally, I think he should be defending attending the trade mission rather than the marathon.

Anyway, Mayor Sutcliffe is a role model, particularly for parents who allow their children to spend more time sitting while looking down at their phones or tablets than moving.

To wrap this up, I can’t imagine Justin Trudeau or Doug Ford running to the mailbox, let alone running in a marathon, so way to go, Mayor Sutcliffe!

Re: Ottawa Sun front page, April 3

With all due respect, what was your editorial staff thinking? I was stunned, unsettled and instantly lost my appetite when I collected the April 3 Ottawa Sun.

I understand that newspapers are a business, that profits are critical to survival, that “shock and awe” increase distribution. But why would you put that individual’s (Boris Borutski) picture on the front page? I do not believe that your intention was to upset your readers. But, in my opinion, this decision was thoughtless (I hope) and insensitive. Publish his picture, if you must, but not front and centre.

Fortunately, I have never experienced domestic abuse. But, as a nurse with 40-plus years working in critical care areas (emergency, ICU and pediatric ICU), I have cared for victims of domestic abuse. Some of those images and stories will last me five lifetimes.

Your paper publishes excellent editorials. Perhaps you could consider writing one, at some point, explaining your decision for the April 3 front page. I am sure that it would help us more easily understand your approach about the reason the perpetrator seemingly received such honour, because I am sure that was not your intent.

DON’T BE FOOLED

Justin Trudeau just announced a lot of money for housing. He says it will make it more affordable for the younger generation, which I highly doubt. I am willing to bet the PM doesn’t even know what it takes to build a house and how long it takes from start to finish. This money giveaway is just another attempt to look good with the election coming. Do not let it fool you.
