How to Get The Dawning Memento (Winter Night Quest Guide)

Mementos are cosmetic upgrades in Destiny 2 that keep track of a player’s stats while also providing a unique shader. Not only are these limited as rewards from certain activites, but they are also very rare. However, such isn’t the case for the Dawning Memento released in 2023.

As part of the Christmas event for Destiny 2 Season of the Wish, players will be able to get a sparkly Dawning Memento as a reward for completing the Winter Night quest from Eva Levante. Here’s everything you need to do to finish this quest.

Destiny 2 Winter Night Quest Guide

The Winter Night quest in Destiny 2

You can pick up this quest after starting Cookie Delivery Helper, which is the second Dawning quest Eva gives to players. Once that one’s in the quest log, speak with Eva again and grab Winter Night from her inventory. Reload into the Tower if Eva doesn’t give this to you immediately. This is a relatively short, two-step quest that will have players doing exactly what they expect from the Dawning:

  • Get 75 Snowball Final Blows
  • Get 25 upgraded Snowball Final Blows
  • Deliver a Classic Butter Cookie to Eva

You can do these in any order, though it might be more time-efficient if you bake a batch of cookies for Eva right after grabbing the quest. The other two objectives will need to be done elsewhere — preferably, a place where tons of enemies spawn.

Snowballs drop randomly after defeating an enemy anywhere in the Sol system with any weapon. The Terminal Overload activity in Neomuna is a good place to farm Snowball kills since tons of Shadow Legion Cabal and Vex spawn over the course of its three rounds.

To get the upgraded Snowball kills, players must first unlock either the Long Winter and Stay Frosty upgrades from Eva. These will make Snowball Slow effects last longer and make them drop Stasis mines respectively. It may be a good idea to unlock these first before grinding for the 75 Snowball Final Blows, but keep in mind that these upgrades cost Dawning Spirit, a currency that can be obtained by completing Dawning challenges and delivering cookies to NPCs.

Once all the quest steps are complete, Eva will give players their Dawning Memento. To use it, go to the Enclave and either Shape or Reshape a weapon. Insert the Memento into its dedicated slot to complete the process. To unlock the shader, level the weapon up to 30 by defeating enemies with it or spending resources on it. Additional Dawning Mementos can be earned randomly by opening Gifts in Return, which are obtained by giving cookies to NPCs.
