The Shifting Corpus Ring is just one of these numerous items, enabling utility through the addition of two strong buffing Spells. In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Shifting Corpus Ring can only be obtained during Act 2. To gain this item, you will need to have progressed through Act 1 of the game and entered the Shadow-Cursed Lands, but not have progressed past the point of no return in the Gauntlet of Shar, as this will close off the encounter in which the Shifting Corpus Ring can be gained.

After arriving in the Shadow-Cursed Lands of Act 2, you will now need to head to Last Light Inn. Your first opportunity to reach this location will be during your escort by Kar’niss, the Drider. As he leads you through the Shadow-Cursed Lands with his Moonlantern, you will be ambushed by a group of Harpers. At this point, you will have to choose to either turn on Karn’iss and Kansif and beat them in battle, or maintain your cover by assisting them in defeating the Harpers. If you choose the latter, one of the Harpers will guide you to Last Light Inn following this encounter.

It doesn’t matter too much which choice you make here, as continuing to side with Kar’niss and Kansif and killing the Harpers in this encounter won’t have any effect on being able to reach Last Light Inn or even befriending and recruiting Jaheira. If you choose to slay the Harpers, then you will continue following Kar’niss to Moonrise Towers. After arriving here, you may choose to explore a little bit, but will eventually need to backtrack and head to Last Light Inn. For players who chose to assist Kar’niss, a map screenshot has been included below, with Last Light Inn marked to help you find your way.

After arriving at Last Light Inn, you will be interrogated by a distrusting Jaheira. Luckily, there is a True Soul in disguise among those at Last Light Inn – a Flaming Fist named Marcus, who is secretly working with Ketheric Thorm and the cultists. He will intervene, vouching for you to Jaheria to gain her trust. After being accepted into Last Light Inn, you will need to speak to Jaheira. After speaking to her, you can initiate the combat needed to gain the Shifting Corpus Ring through one of two different methods.

This can be done either by speaking to Marcus on the second floor or speaking to Isobel on the balcony. During your talk with Marcus, you will have an option to betray him and Attack. This will put you right into combat with Marcus, and any nearby residents of the Inn – until he calls upon several monsters to aid him, turning the Harpers to your side. In the scenario of speaking to Isobel instead, Marcus will ambush you, attempting to steal Isobel away. Here you will need to interject, attacking him instead. If you fail to attack Marcus through either of these methods and stop him from targeting Isobel, you will miss out on obtaining the Shifting Corupus Ring.

Once combat occurs, you will need to take Marcus down as the priority. As soon as he is dead, you can loot the Shifting Corpus Ring from his body and add it to your inventory, or equip it to a character of your choice.

Now you can simply finish up the fight by protecting Isobel and taking out the rest of the monsters. Following this, you will be able to take a closer look at the Shifting Corpus Ring to determine which build it may best fit into or even influence how you progress with other item selections, respecs, or Feats.

Shifting Corpus Ring Perks & How to Get the Most Value, Explained

Shifting Corpus Ring Perks + Skills

  • Invisibility Spell: Touch a creature to turn it Invisible. Attacks against it have Disadvantage. It attacks with Advantage. Invisibility breaks when you fail Stealth Checks on attacking, casting spells or interacting with item. Condition ends early if the creature attacks or casts a spell.
  • Blur Spell: Attackers have Disadvantage on Attack Rolls against you. Doesn’t affect creatures that don’t rely on sight or that can see through illusions.

While Blur and Invisibility certainly won’t be the core of a character build, they can certainly be some nice additions to the right setup. In particular, Rogues are the Class most dependent on stealth, invisibility, sneaking, and obtaining an Advantage or imposing Disadvantage on enemies, so this ring can nicely enhance these functions.

In Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, Auntie Ethel can present you with one of the best buff items in the game, but only if you make the right decisions.

The Rogue’s Arcane Trickster Subclass is a half-caster focusing on illusory and utility Spells, with Blur and Invisibility being the perfect addition to the Arcane Trickster’s kit. With this bonus utility, your Arcane Trickster will have the ability to maximize on the Invisibility Spell in particular, utilizing the invisibility to gain Sneak Attack through Advantage or capitalize on their already high DEX to lockpick some important doors or chests containing value loot, whilst remaining hidden – even within range of an enemy. If you’re not running an Arcane Trickster in your party, then this also happens to be Astarion’s default Subclass, so feel free to try implementing the Shifting Corpus Ring into his build to see how it synergizes with the rest of his skills.
