Genshin Impact, Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy XVI Win Grand Awards at PlayStation Partner Awards

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the winners of its annual PlayStation Partner Awards, which focus on the Japanese and Asian markets.

The event was previously simply named “PlayStation Awards” and this is the 29th edition since its debut in 1994.

As you may see below, the awards are structured rather differently compared to Western ones. A number of games can win the same awards, and some categories are awarded for a variety of reasons. This is actually a reflection of Japanese culture.

Armored Core VI may not have won a grand prize, but it was among the top-voted games by Japanese and Asian gamers.

We start with the three Grand Awards, given to the top three games made in the Japanese and Asian regions in terms of worldwide sales from October 2022 to September 2023, including retail, digital, DLC, and microtransactions.

Next are the Partner Awards, given to games made in Japan and Asia that were also among the top sellers worldwide from October 2022 to September 2023, and achieved noteworthy results. This may sound a bit obscure, but it’s explained as being “according to Sony’s parameters, including the number of players.”

The Special Awards were given to the top-selling PS5 games in the Japanese and Asian regions from October 2022 to September 2023 developed outside Japan and Asia, to a game that has excellent accessibility features, and to the top-selling PS VR2 game.

Last, but not least, the Users’ Choice Awards honor the top 5 games voted by gamers among the top 30 titles released in Japan and Asia from October 2022 to September 2023.
