Out of the eight total Game Awards categories that Alan Wake 2 was nominated in, Remedy managed to secure victory in three of those. While the actual act of winning those categories isn’t surprising, with Alan Wake 2 being a truly exceptional video game experience, what is surprising is the sheer level of competition Alan Wake 2 managed to conquer in order to achieve these coveted awards.

Arguably, Alan Wake 2‘s most impressive win of the night came right toward the end of The Game Awards 2023. Going up against juggernauts like Baldur’s Gate 3, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2 managed to walk away with the Best Game Direction trophy at The Game Awards 2023. Though Remedy’s Sam Lake was hurried off-stage after just 30 seconds, this moment is undoubtedly a highlight of Remedy’s entire history, with the studio’s wholly unique shared vision being the thing that secured them this award.

Another slightly surprising win for Alan Wake 2 was the Best Narrative Game Award. Before the ceremony, many fans were convinced that this would be yet another category that Baldur’s Gate 3 would sweep, with its player-led narrative being one of the RPG’s biggest and best features. But Alan Wake 2‘s expertly-delivered dual narrative was deemed to be the better story this year, and Alan Wake 2 fans are ecstatic with the result.

The final Game Awards trophy that Alan Wake 2 managed to walk away with was the one for Best Art Direction. Another incredibly stacked category with gorgeous games like Hi-Fi Rush, Zelda, and Mario Bros. Wonder, this was an impressive win for Alan Wake 2, and definitely another deserved one. One of Alan Wake 2‘s most striking features is its realistic art style, featuring cutting-edge lighting effects, character and face models, and environmental textures, all of which come together to make Alan Wake 2 one of the best-looking games of all time. Pair this with Remedy’s unique penchant for live-action integration, and Alan Wake 2‘s art direction is like no other this year.
