Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Boots (& How To Get Them)

Choosing the right footwear can offer players massive advantages in Baldur’s Gate 3. Here are the best boots the game has to offer.

The best BG3 cloaks and capes compliment a specific playstyle, slotting in as the final piece of overpowered builds. As with other items of clothing, cloaks can be dyed to many desired colors. However, while it’s all well and good knowing about the fine raiment players can don, it is crucial that they also know where to find the best cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Updated March 15, 2024 by Joe Grantham: There are a wide variety of Cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3, and as the gear slot can’t be filled by anything else, it makes sense for players to get one for each character.

Thus, with at least four required for a playthrough, this list has been updated to include even more Cloaks. Whether players want to choose their Cloak for style, defense, or access to certain spells, there are options for everyone.

1 Wavemother’s Cloak

Protects Against Fire, But Is Vulnerable To Cold & Lightning Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Wavemother's Cloak

Rarity

Effects

Rare

  • Damp Aegis: During Combat, once per turn, the cloak grants the wearer Water Layer Protection until the wearer takes damage.
  • Water Layer Protection prevents Burning and grants resistance to Fire damage. However, it also gives vulnerability to Lightning and Cold damage.

The Wavemother’s Cloak can be a great option, but if players take it into the wrong fight, it can also be a death sentence. This is because it grants resistance to Fire damage and completely stops the wearer from Burning. Thus, if players know they will be facing, for example, some of the best Fire spells in BG3, it’s time to don this Cloak.

However, it also makes the wearer vulnerable to both Lightning and Cold damage, meaning they will take double the damage. While the suitability of the Wavemother’s Cloak is based on a case-by-case scenario, players won’t have to make these decisions until Act 3 when it is found in the Lower City. More specifically, it is found in the Water Queen’s House, inside a chest.

2 The Deathstalker Mantle

Turn Invisible After Killing Enemies

Baldur's Gate 3 The Deathstalker Mantle (Cloak)

Rarity

Effects

Rare

The Shadow Itself: Once per turn when the wearer kills an enemy, they shroud themselves in primeval darkness to become Invisible for 2 turns.

The Deathstalker Mantle is an incredibly interesting Cloak to use as it causes the wearer to turn invisible after securing a kill. This allows players to pull off all sorts of tricks, from sneaking away on super low health to repositioning behind enemies least expecting it. The invisibility lasts for two turns, and yet this effect can be used once every turn, allowing for almost constant stealth.

The only catch to The Deathstalker Mantle is that it will only be given to the Dark Urge, and even then they must have murdered Alfira. Once it is in their possession nothing is stopping them from granting it to other characters. It is given by Sceleritas Fel, a fiend integral to the Dark Urge’s past.

3 Mantle Of The Holy Warrior

Grants A Spell Which Gives Allies More Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Mantle of the Holy Warrior (Cloak)

Rarity

Effects

Very Rare

Crusader’s Mantle (Lvl 3 Spell): Radiate a holy power that emboldens nearby allies. Their weapon attacks deal an additional 1d4 Radiant damage. Once per Short Rest.

Unless players already have access to the Crusader’s Mantle spell, then the Mantle of the Holy Warrior is a great Cloak to pick up for one member of the party. While this is all the Cloak grants, the Paladin spell is rather good as it can buff up all nearby allies to deal some extra Radiant damage.

By following these tips, players can rest assured that they can dominate most encounters in Baldur’s Gate 3 with ease.

The downside, however, is that players will need to wait until Act 3 to don this holy Cloak as it can only be purchased, quite appropriately, from the Vicar inside the Stormshore Tabernacle.

4 Fleshmelter Cloak

Repel Enemies With Acid Damage

Baldur's Gate 3 Fleshmelter Cloak

Rarity

Effects

Uncommon

Caustic Reprisal: Whenever a creature deals melee damage to the wearer, that creature takes 1d4 Acid damage.

Seeing as many common enemies use melee attacks in Baldur’s Gate 3, players will get plenty of use out of the Fleshmelter Cloak if they choose to wear it. This is because, for each attack, this horrifying cloak will return 1d4 Acid damage to the attacker.

Players with a desire to see their enemies’ flesh melt can find the Fleshmelter Cloak in the House of Healing Morgue inside a Gilded Chest.

5 Cloak Of Protection

A Great Defensive Cloak For Every Character

Baldur's Gate 3 Cloak of Protection

Rarity

Effects

Uncommon

  • Armor Class +1.
  • Saving Throw +1.

Despite being Uncommon and fairly easy to acquire, the Cloak of Protection is arguably one of the best BG3 cloaks, as every single character can get great use out of it. With +1 AC, players will be less likely to be hit by attacks, and +1 to Saving Throws means they can avoid many negative effects.

Players can purchase the Cloak of Protection at the Last Light Innat the start of Act 2. It is sold by Quartermaster Talli for a fairly reasonable price.

6 Cloak Of Displacement

Become Harder To Hit

Baldur's Gate 3 Cloak of Displacement

Rarity

Effects

Rare

Displacement: At the beginning of the wearer’s turn, the cloak activates, granting enemies Disadvantage on Attack Rolls that target the wearer. This effect lasts until the wearer takes damage.

If players already have a high AC from wearing the best Heavy Armor, then the Cloak of Displacement will make them even harder to hit. This is because enemies will have to roll twice on Attack Rolls and take the lowest number. While this is good for anyone, characters with high AC will benefit most as the effect ends once they are hit.

When choosing adventuring companions in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s important that their skills complement each other.

The Cloak of Displacement can be bought at Danthelon’s Dancing Axe, a shop located on the bridge known as Wyrm’s Crossing in Act 3.

7 Shade-Slayer Cloak

Perfect For Stealth

Baldur's Gate 3 Shade-Slayer Cloak

Rarity

Effects

Very Rare

Stealthy Critical: While Hiding, the number you need to roll a Critical Hit while attacking is reduced by 1. This effect can stack.

The Shade-Slayer Cloak is the perfect addition to any Rogue build in Baldur’s Gate 3, or for any other character who wants to deal damage while hidden. This is because, while successfully hidden, players will be able to score crits more easily.

To get their hands on this cloak, players must first reach Act 3 of the game, as the Shade-Slayer Cloak can be purchased in the Guildhall from Sticky Dondo. The Guildhall is found in the Lower City Sewers.

8 Derivation Cloak

Heal When Poisoning Enemies

Baldur's Gate 3 Derivation Cloak

Rarity

Effects

Rare

Deadly Derivation: When Poisoning an enemy, heal for 1d4 HP.

On the shoulders of most characters, the Derivation Cloak is practically useless unless they have an ample supply of Basic Poison to coat their weapons with. However, if players have built their character around doing Poison damage, then this cloak instantly becomes overpowered.

This is particularly true if players can poison multiple enemies at once, allowing them to heal for more HP. The cloak also happens to be a beautiful forest green that can complement many looks. The Derivation Cloak can be found in Balthazar’s chambers on the first floor of Moonrise Towers in Act 2. More specifically, it is inside a Heavy Chest.

9 Nymph Cloak

Turn An Enemy Into An Ally

Baldur's Gate 3 Nymph Cloak

Rarity

Effects

Very Rare

Dominate Person:A Level 5 spell that allows the wearer to force a humanoid enemy to fight for them. Once per Long Rest.

The Nymph Cloak is an excellent cloak based on the Dominate Person spell it provides wearers with. If used correctly, on a strong humanoid enemy, players will have a new temporary ally at their side. Even if this enemy doesn’t do too well with its attacks, it is one less enemy to worry about and other enemies may waste their attacks against the dominated person.

It also happens to be one of the best-looking cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3, and players can purchase the Nymph Cloak in Rivington, from Ferg Drogher at the start of Act 3.

10 Cloak Of The Weave

Perfect For Any Spell Caster

Baldur's Gate 3 Cloak of the Weave

Rarity

Effects

Very Rare

  • Arcane Enchantment: Gain a +1 bonus to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls.
  • Absorb Elements: Take half damage from the next elemental attack, and deal an additional 1d6 of that element type on the next attack. Once per Short Rest.

Other than being one of the most beautiful cloaks in BG3, especially when dyed, the Cloak of the Weave is also one of the strongest, at least for any spell casters. The bonus to Spell Attack Rolls means that players are more likely to hit their spells, and enemies will also have a harder time saving themselves from effects.

Additionally, the cloak also has a defensive element to it, allowing players to take less damage from the first fire, cold, etc. attack, and then return some of the damage. The Cloak of the Weave can be purchased at the Devil’s Fee shop, in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate. However, players must first unlock Helsik’s special stock.
