A Winter Edition of the Pocket Playfest is Heading Your Way – Gamezebo

TapTap is launching a Winter Edition of its Pocket Playfest series of events, and it’s going to be a truly epic celebration of indie game making.

Running across 16 days – from December 23rd to January 7th – it’s open for indie developers to showcase their titles on the TapTap games discovery platform.

Participants can play and vote for their favourite games, and these will all be original indie titles that have been ported for the very first time on mobile. So they’ll all be exclusive to TapTap – exciting stuff.

Playfest is massively accessible too, thanks to the fact that it uses cloud gaming for you to play the games. So there’s no need to download and install each game individually. Just have a stable internet connection and you can play every single title in-app. Please note that because of this it’s only available to gamers in the US and Canada at this time though.

So that’s all well and good, but how does the actual event work in terms of deciding a winner? Well we’re glad you asked.

It runs as a double elimination tournament, where every day for sixteen days participants will be able to play two games and vote for their favourite.

The winner of each round advances until they reach the finals held on January the 7th, where only one game can claim the Players’ Choice award.

There are actual prizes on offer of course, including 5 lots of $1,000, a Steam Deck, and 3 Xbox Elite controllers. Not too shabby.

The games competing look to be an exciting bunch, and we’re exploring these in detail later this month. They include multiplayer arena brawler Giga Bash, sci-fi thriller Minds Beneath Us, and bullet hell roguelite Pesticide Not Required.
