The Last of Us Player Discovers Unbelievable Intro Detail Fans Have Been Missing For Years

While playing through the iconic intro of The Last of Us, one player discovered an impressive detail in which the in-game clocks keep consistent time. Rather than displaying random times or staying stagnant, the in-game clocks in The Last of Us actually keep time with real-world ones. However, there are some limits to this cool detail.

Despite being more than a decade old, it’s impressive that fans are still uncovering new details about what many consider to be one of the greatest video games of all time. Because The Last of Us features one of the saddest intro sequences in video game history, it’s one of those video game moments that is seared into players’ brains. The heartbreaking scene between Joel and his daughter is not something gamers are likely to forget, especially now that it has also been immortalized in the HBO series. Still, as unwilling as some players might be to revisit the compelling yet tragic opening minutes of The Last of Us, one recently surfaced detail suggests there might be even more to discover in the iconic intro.

Reddit user spaceman shared an image with the community that shows the clock on the in-game cellphone actually keeps time. Additionally, The Last of Us fan performed an experiment in which they waited for several hours to see just how long the clock would run. While conducting the test, spaceman discovered two things: First, the phone actually kept time consistently with real-world clocks, and second, the clock would only run until 2:59 AM before returning to 1 AM. Initially, the player wanted to see if they could wait until morning, but the phone never made it to 3 AM.

The Last of Us is the game of the last decade according to many fans. Given its place in gaming history, it certainly makes sense that fans would put the title through its paces. Still, this sort of experimentation requires a decent amount of dedication. Rather than move on with the rest of the acclaimed story, the player instead decided to stay in Joel’s house for several hours and occasionally check the clock on the in-game phone. For the sake of general curiosity, the community is sure glad they did.

For PS5 owners, Naughty Dog remade the initial game, updating the gameplay and giving the beloved title a noticeable face lift. However, fans will note the original game still looks superb for its age. While not a full-on remake, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is also coming to the PS5 in January with upgraded graphics and a new roguelike survival mode.

Unfortunately, The Last of Us Online was recently canceled by Naughty Dog to the dismay of many fans. While the online multiplayer title was highly anticipated by the community at large, the studio claims it ultimately made the tough decision to shelve the game as it would likely take away from its single-player efforts moving forward.
