Before we get into the nitty-gritty, we should state that this article is riddled with spoilers discussing the end of Persona 3 Reload, as well as what comes after. So if you haven’t beaten the game or don’t want the story ruined, this is your last SPOILER WARNING.
The ending of Persona 3 Reload sees the MC overcoming Nyx and saving the world from total destruction. It all comes to a bitter-sweet ending, where Aigis holds the MC in her arms on the roof of Gekkoukan High before he falls into an infinite slumber. This is normally where the game will end and roll the credits. However, if you beat the game on Merciless difficulty, you’ll get a secret message.

Elizabeth will come to you and congratulate you on overcoming the hardest obstacles, before handing you a Blue Envelope. The Blue Envelope is the only item in the game that carries over when starting New Game+ and comes with an interesting message.
The letter in the envelope reads: “At the end of a great trial, the answer illuminates my path.” Fans already have begun speculating the item’s meaning, since it has no in-game effects. Of course, the biggest theory is the fact that Atlus is teasing the eventual DLC included in Persona 3 FES title “The Answer.”
What does the Blue Envelope mean?
However, if we delve further into the message in the letter, we can extrapolate a few ideas. First, discerning who the message is from. Since the character you play in The Answer is Aigis, it could be a letter directed toward her. This would make sense since the entirety of The Answer DLC is about trying to revive/save the MC.
That being said, what if we look at the message a bit differently? What if somehow, the MC was able to alter space and time (an idea P3R is familiar with) to send this message to himself in the past? While the majority of Persona 3 Reload’s story is 1:1 with the original game, that doesn’t mean the devs won’t take liberties with the DLC.
The Answer is a polarizing story, some fans love it, while others prefer to pretend it never existed. So taking the Final Fantasy 7 route of changing things might not be too farfetched. Because as we can see from the main game, just because the story stays the same, doesn’t mean there won’t be other differences.
