WarTales Ignored Common Save-Deletion Bug in Its Recent Patch

Since WarTales made it to Game Pass, the Subreddit dedicated to the game has been asking for developers to fix the save bug. Essentially, after playing the game for some time, it tells the player it needs to sync the data. After syncing, many players have found all of their saved data erased.

Today, WarTales released a patch that did not go over fixing this save bug even though the last report on Reddit was 14 hours ago. One player reported that they had lost their save data twice.

The new patch (Version v1.0.30009) does fix a few other things that need repair. This patch fixes several crashes that could occur during battles. It also addresses an issue where allied NPCs were not using their main skills effectively and corrects an error that caused the Contamination skill to be classified as a base action.

There are more fixes, but these were the issues that needed the help. However, save data being deleted consistently keeps a player from completing the game, which is technically a game-breaking bug. In QA game-breaking bugs would cause everyone to stop working until the bug is fixed (at least at the companies I know of). This is because they would need to work on a version that has the bug removed.

I’ve played WarTales and enjoyed it until I realized that your party size makes the enemy size scale, which is not fun for me at all. In my opinion, difficulty scaling in strategy games just punishes players for grinding and prepping instead of rewarding them. I honestly despise it and I’ve seen some posts who agree; it just feels like a lazy way to keep difficulty.

I haven’t experienced the save glitch myself, and I’m super glad I haven’t. The game is really worth going through but things like this keep great games from getting the attention they deserve. This kind of bug also keeps it from being recommended to others.
