It’s been a while since our last post on the development of World of PADMAN 1.7, so it’s time for a status update. We are hoping for a release next year, when World of PADMAN celebrates its 20th anniversary.

If everything goes according to plan, the new version will feature 3 new game types. Freeze Tag is known from the XMAS mod has been given icy effects for all weapons. The aim is to completely freeze the opposing team and thus render them unable to fight. Of course, you can also unfreeze your teammates if the opponent allows it. The game mode is already fully playable, even with bots, and we are only working on a few minor details. The aim in Catch the Killerduck is to collect the Killerduck holdable as quickly as possible and hold on to it for as long as possible, because you get points for doing so. Unfortunately, you are then at the mercy of the other players. Although you receive maximum health and armor, you can no longer collect and use weapons and ammunition. So you have no choice but to use your legs and skillfully dodge the attacks of your fellow players who also want to get their hands on the Killerduck. A higher running and jumping speed and the option of still being able to collect all the powerups help here. The bots already understand the game principle quite well, but unfortunately we are still plagued by a few bugs at the moment, which we hope to find and fix in the beta tests at the latest. Last but not least, there may also be One Lolly CTL in the new WoP version. The aim of your team here is to collect the neutral lolly in the middle of the map as quickly as possible and deliver it to the red or blue lolly in the opponent’s base, as this scores points. It is therefore a modified version of the familiar Capture the Lolly game principle, only with shorter running paths and without the teams being able to block each other. The game mode is already fully playable on four of our CTL maps, but we still have to explain this to the bots, as they don’t yet understand what they are supposed to do here. The neutral lollipop on the screenshot is still a placeholder and will be replaced.
World of PADMAN 1.7 will bring three more skins for the PADMAN model. HellPad, which was originally created by Mario “Shocker” Perez Leal for Quake 3 with great attention to detail, was already part of the last PadMod update from 2004. The skin gets a tiny bugfix with WoP 1.7. The PadClassic skin, intended as a tribute to the early appearance of PADMAN from the comic of the same name, should not be missed. The red X on the belt buckle and the green arm and trouser cuffs are his trademarks. Apart from the rather normal sunglasses, because the Pad logo, which today gives PADMAN’s sunglasses their shape, did not yet exist in 1998. As a real innovation, PElvis aka. PadElvis by Camilla “milla” Koutsos will now be back. He was originally created and released for Quake 3 as part of the legendary PADMAN skin contest. He was last part of WoP 1.1, the standalone release from 2007, and now we are happy to have all three on board.
On the screenshots you can also admire a first draft of the new player menu in 16:9 widescreen format. You should notice the much larger grid with 12 skins and the display of 6 model icons. But that’s not the only new feature, because we have thoroughly revised the entire WoP menu with all the options. The Game Options menu, for example, has many new entries. In contrast to the one- to two-page menus of the previous versions, the extended menu offers all options on a total of four pages for HUD, GAME, CHAT, and HELP. But see for yourself.
With this wip preview of WoP 1.7, we wish you a happy second Advent. There will be more updates soon, so stay tuned. Your WoP team
