A new Honkai: Star Rail leak is teasing a major gameplay mechanic set to arrive with Penacony in Version 2.0, featuring 3D traversal of the game’s maps. The addition of Penacony to the massively popular HoYoverse RPG looks to be bringing a variety of new content between its colorful world, new characters, and new enemies. Teasers from HoYoverse have already shown off multiple of the world’s playable cast members, showing off upcoming Star Rail characters like Sparkle, Gallagher, and Sam among others. Now, a major new gameplay mechanic in Penacony looks to add significant depth to the game’s explorable areas.

Recent leaks from Honkai: Star Rail have already given plenty of information about what Penacony will look like within the RPG. Promotional images shared during the Version 1.6 Special Program introduced the vibrant and colorful world, with leaks showing off several different areas like the “Dream Corner” and “Golden Hour.” The region’s initial story will reportedly feature multiple rumored characters as in-game bosses, with both Stellaron Hunter Sam and mysterious organization The Family’s Sunday as enemies. Now, a new leak gives the first look at a map featuring 3D traversal within Penacony.

A new leak from Honkai: Star Rail reveals that one of the game’s upcoming playable characters will debut as a boss during Version 2.0.

A video shared by prominent Honkai: Star Rail leaker c2tr shows off the new “Dreamwalker” mechanic within Honkai: Star Rail. The video showcases the Trailblazer using the new mechanic to create a “Dream Bubble Bridge,” appearing as a ramp at the base of a wall. The ramp allows the player to walk up onto the wall of the room, shifting the camera’s perspective and featuring a fully 3D map. The mechanic looks to be used in unique puzzle-solving situations within Penacony, offering an alternative way for players to cross gaps within a zone.

Honkai: Star Rail‘s first new world adding a brand-new mechanic would follow HoYoverse’s past trends with Genshin Impact‘s exploration. Each new region added to Genshin Impact‘s in-game world typically brings a plethora of new puzzle and exploration mechanics, even adding underwater traversal with Fontaine’s release. Honkai: Star Rail has yet to feature any major exploration-related mechanics, instead including mini-games and challenges like the Xianzhou Luofu’s Navigation Compasses. Honkai: Star Rail‘s Version 2.0 is expected to release on February 7.

The introduction of Honkai: Star Rail‘s newest world is set to bring plenty of new additions to the game’s playable roster. HoYoverse has confirmed Black Swan as the first featured five-star character following Penacony’s release in Version 2.0, with the previously mentioned Sparkle and Misha also debuting during the update. Star Rail‘s Version 1.6 Special Program teased several future characters, giving players their first look at new cast members like Firefly and Robin. Penacony’s debut in Version 2.0 looks to significantly expand both Honkai: Star Rail‘s cast and its in-game world.
