Spider-Man 4 Rumored To Eye Fast and Furious Director Justin Lin

Highlights

  • Spider-Man 4 is reportedly looking for a new director, with Justin Lin from the Fast and Furious franchise being a rumored contender.
  • Marvel Studios and Sony reportedly disagreed on the direction for Spider-Man 4, with different visions for the story.
  • No details about Spider-Man 4 have been confirmed yet, but fans are eager to see how the story unfolds after the events of No Way Home.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 is reportedly searching for a new director to replace the Homecoming trilogy’s Jon Watts, and one of the rumored contenders comes from the Fast and Furious franchise.

After Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded the trilogy of films that effectively told the web slinger’s MCU origin story, Marvel Studios and Sony were tasked with ushering Holland’s wall-crawler into a new era where nobody remembered who Peter Parker was. However, behind-the-scenes drama has allegedly unfolded, as Marvel Studios and Sony reportedly disagreed on what direction to take Spider-Man 4. According to reports, Marvel Studios wanted a grounded and street-level story for Spider-Man 4, while Sony wanted Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to return for another multiverse tale.

Some viewers seem to hate the idea of a nonbinary character existing in X-Men ’97. But one actor pointed out how they missed the point of the series.

Spider-Man 4 is also reportedly searching for a new director to replace Watts, who helmed all 3 installments of the Homecoming Spider-Man trilogy. According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, director Justin Lin may be in contention to helm Spider-Man 4, though he is just one of many filmmakers reportedly being considered. Sneider also reports that Spider-Man 4 should begin filming in September or October 2024. This filming schedule is also allegedly partly why HBO’s Euphoria season 3 was recently delayed. Zendaya, who plays Rue in the teen drama series, is locked to reprise her role as MJ in Spider-Man 4 when production reportedly begins in the fall.

justin lin vin diesel

Lin directed five Fast and Furious movies and was set to helm the tenth installment before suddenly exiting over alleged disagreements with franchise lead Vin Diesel. He also directed Star Trek Beyond, the third installment of the franchise’s rebooted movie series, after J.J. Abrams (director of the first two reboot films) opted to return solely as a producer to focus his efforts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. More recently, Lin was tapped to direct the live-action One Punch Man movie. So, there’s no denying Lin has vast experience adapting popular material and taking the baton from other filmmakers for blockbuster franchises.

Of course, as of this writing, Marvel Studios and Sony have not confirmed any details about Spider-Man 4. While Sneider has been correct in the past, including when he reported that Kaitlyn Dever might be cast as Abby in The Last of Us season 2 nearly two months before the casting was officially announced, fans should probably wait to hear from Marvel Studios and Sony before rushing to any conclusions.

Still, fans are curious to see how Spider-Man 4 will unfold. No Way Home ended with Peter Parker living alone in a small apartment, much of New York viewing Spider-Man as a menace, and everyone forgetting Peter Parker existed, including MJ and his best friend Ned. Finding the right director to pick up where No Way Home left off while telling an exciting new story for Spider-Man 4 will be crucial. However, after three successful films, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige have arguably proven they know how to handle the wall-crawler’s cinematic adventures.

Spider-Man 4 is in development at Marvel Studios.
