Silent Hill Ascension premiere trailer leaves fans asking ‘WTF is this’

Silent Hill is making a big comeback. We haven’t really seen the series since Hideo Kojima’s P.T. teaser back in 2014, but there are projects in development. The Silent Hill Ascension premiere trailer has dropped weeks before its release date, and fans are baffled as to how it at all relates to one of Konami’s most famous IPs.

The future is bright if you’re a lover of horror and Silent Hill. Developer Bloober Team is still working on the Silent Hill 2 remake pegged for 2024. There’s also Silent Hill Townfall, there’s a brand new Return to Silent Hill movie sequel, and there’s Silent Hill F. The latter is possibly the most exciting as it’s a gruesome episode that takes place in Japan.

Plenty of games will come out in the future to satisfy the quench of starving Silent Hill fans. Unfortunately, it appears as though Konami’s first efforts with Ascension will leave fans disappointed.

Silent Hill Ascension premiere trailer

Genvid Entertainment has uploaded the premiere trailer for Silent Hill Ascension. The start date for this series is October 31st, and the interactive saga is unique, to say the least. It’s an episodic adaptation that allows the community to decide the fate of individual protagonists by contributing to decisions.

Weekly episodes will be released through the Sony Pictures Core app available on PS4 and PS5, as well as Sony’s Bravia televisions, and select Xperia smartphones. Fans will also be able to watch each episode live and make real-time decisions through the official Silent Hill Ascension website. The debut episode lands on October 31st at 6 pm PT and 9 pm ET, which translates to 2 am BST on November 1st for viewers in the UK.

It is a unique premise, and the ambition is worthy of praise. However, it is admittedly confusing, and plenty of fans are just baffled by its existence. Over on the Genvid Entertainment YouTube channel, one comment says it’s ‘Not exactly the big silent hill comeback people were hoping for’. Another commenter wonders how it’s going to last six months when it ‘doesn’t even feel like Silent Hill based off the trailer’. One witty user was particularly full of sass commenting ‘ I am glad Konami canceled Kojima/del Toro/Junji Ito’s Silent Hill.. this looks much better’.

Many comments simply express ‘WTF is this?’. Some don’t understand if it’s a mobile game, and they don’t understand how it’s going to work with the likelihood of trolls trying to get every character killed. Most importantly, fans just don’t understand how it relates to Silent Hill.

Konami and Genvid Entertainment could shock everyone, but it’s a difficult task. The concept is bizarre on paper, and the commitment needed from fans is huge. Hopefully, it’s a delightful surprise, but, right now, fans are not fully on board with the project.

In other horror news, the Dead Space remake is joining Xbox Game Pass in October 2023. BeHaviour Interactive has also confirmed the DBD Haunted By Daylight 2023 event start time and skins.
