PlayStation fans are now able to enjoy an acclaimed comedy game in the form of What the Golf?. Originally released in 2019, Denmark-based developer Triband’s comedic golf puzzle game is now available on PS4 and PS5.

Despite being passing somewhat under the radar for many players due to being an Apple Arcade exclusive title at first, What the Golf? won accolades at the 2019 Game Developers’ Choice awards, scoring the Best Mobile Game award, alongside nomination honors for other 2019 award slates. More players got their hands on the game after Triband produced a Nintendo Switch port in 2020. In late February 2024, a PSN store product page went live for What the Golf?, indicating that the game would hit PS4 and PS5 on March 14.

What the Golf? Arrives on PlayStation, Switch Version Gets an Update

The What the Golf? PSN store page is now fully featured, placing the game at a price of $19.99 USD in North America. PS Plus subscribers will be able to avail themselves of a launch window discount of 50% off, putting their price at $9.99. Triband announced What the Golf?‘s availability on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with a trailer. Triband said that the PS5 version of the game comes with all the previously added updates, including Among Golf!, an update inspired by hit social game Among Us. That brings the total number of levels to over 300, including the famed “Golf a Horse” level, where players try to use their golfing prowess to help a wild west bandit launch their horse onto a rolling train engine.

In addition to the PS4 and PS5 port, Triband announced that its long-term support for What the Golf? continues on all the game’s available platforms. At the same time as the release of the PlayStation ports, the Switch version of What the Golf? received a new free update, called “Slime Time!”. The update puts players in a mini campaign with over 50 levels a new overworld map, and “gooey” surprises. The mere fact of mentioning slimes confirms that What the Golf?isn’t the typical sort of golf game.

What the Golf? is one part of the best strange sports games around, thanks to Triband’s strong sense of humor and dedication to silliness. It’s one thing to create a parody golf game, but it’s another to loudly and proudly announce that a golf game was made by a team that “knows nothing” about the sport it’s poking fun at. That endearing obliviousness powers many of What the Golf? amusing set pieces and hilarious physics-based puzzle challenges. PS4 and PS5 players looking for a laugh would do well to try out a game claiming to “fix” golf once and for all.
