Sony has revealed that it has updated its licensing agreement with Warner Bros., owner of the Discovery brand, which is home to several beloved shows, including Mythbusters, Cake Boss, and Deadliest Catch. This comes after the Japanese tech giant originally announced early on in the month that PlayStation users would no longer be able to watch Discovery content on their gaming consoles starting December 31, even if it had already been purchased.

This is because the Discovery Channel-based shows you’ve purchased will only be available for a relatively lengthy yet limited time. Afterward, Sony and Warner Bros. will likely have to renew their licensing agreement again to prevent thousands of beloved shows from being forcibly removed.
Sony’s statement, obtained via GamesIndustry.biz’s article, gave fans an idea of how long the renewed licensing agreement will last after it said: “Similar to other services, we do not own the licensing rights to TV/movie content that was previously available for purchase on the PlayStation store.” “However, we’ve worked with Warner Bros to update our licensing agreements, ensuring that customers will be able to access their previously purchased content for at least the next 30 months,” it continued.
You’ll also need to remember that this isn’t the only licensing agreement Sony likely has in place. The PlayStation’s entertainment section is also home to several prominent brands, including Disney, Paramount, and Prime Video. This means that associated shows, including Ahsoka, The Boys, and many others, could eventually be removed from the platform, although you will still be able to watch these series via their respective platforms.
