I already know you all want to know who the winners of the PS Blog Game of the Year are, so we have them below. Anyone who wants the all-time winner can probably guess who it is, but it’s at the very bottom.

  • Best New Character: The symbiotic menace Venom from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won.
  • Best Story: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes home the gold again.
  • Best Graphical Showcase: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 once again received this victory.
  • Best Art Direction: In a huge upset, Alan Wake 2 won, and the salt mines rumble with the echoes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans.
  • Best Audio Design: Luckily, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won this one.
  • Soundtrack of the Year: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, whose soundtrack many wouldn’t remember as well as others, also wins.
  • Best Accessibility Features: Don’t worry, it’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  • Best Use of DualSense Controller: Even though many games boasted a way bigger use of DualSense, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won.
  • Best Multiplayer Experience: Baldur’s Gate 3 won this one, likely because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have any multiplayer features. It likely would have won if it even had a single level with one.
  • Best Ongoing Game: Epic Games keeps Fortnite won this one, but we’d bet they wanted to pick Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
  • Best Expansion: Because Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 doesn’t have DLC, they had to pick a different game out of the hat. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty takes the win.
  • Best Sports Game: It’s a good thing there’s no soccer mini-game in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 because it would have won. Instead, EA Sports FC 24 took this one.
  • Best Independent Game of the Year: Sea of Stars really took this one and ran with it; it’s a great game, to be honest.
  • PS VR2 Game of the Year: Resident Evil Village VR Mode won this one.
  • PS4 Game of the Year: Hogwarts Legacy won this one, but apparently, Resident Evil was a close second.
  • Most Anticipated PlayStation Game of 2024 and Beyond: I would guarantee that if Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 were announced, it would be this one. Instead, Grand Theft Auto VI is taking home the top spot in this category.
  • Studio of the Year: Obviously, Insomniac Games. Who else?
  • PS5 Game of the Year: This is for those who thought it weird that Spider-Man 2 hasn’t been mentioned in a while. The ultimate champion of PlayStation Blog’s 2023 Game of the Year is……….. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!

Is anyone surprised? Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 swept the PS Blog awards, and to be honest, it is kind of overboard. The winner being Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would have been understandable if it hadn’t won almost every other category it competed in. I understand that gamers chose these, but this one feels a lot like fanboy appreciation.

It’s like if a child lost the big talent show, so their parent did one and then just gave the kid a bunch of awards afterward. Realistically, who else is going to win? I don’t mind, honestly; I thought Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was one of the best games to come out in a decade. This year was filled with some truly groundbreaking and generation-defining games, and Marvel’s Spider-Man had a huge chance of winning the real Game of the Year awards had it not been for Baldur’s Gate 3.

I just thought it was so funny that it swept an awards show for its own console. It’s like Kanye going on stage and saying Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time but then did his own VMAs where Beyonce won all of them. Xbox needs to make its own game of the year awards and crown Starfield the winner in multiple areas, including Game of the Year.
