Now World of Goo fans will be excited to learn that the popular puzzle game is finally getting a sequel. The announcement was overlooked thanks to the slew of big reveals that happened at The Game Awards 2023, but World of Goo 2 has been quietly announced with a trailer that reveals its 2024 release window. The World of Goo 2 trailer confirms that the sequel will feature the same kind of puzzle-solving gameplay that fans loved in the original, along with the signature art style associated with developers 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation. Platforms have yet to be announced, but more information on that front will likely come to light next year.

While the original World of Goo never received a sequel, the game was ported to other platforms after its successful debut on PC and Wii. World of Goo mobile ports released in 2010 and 2011 for iOS and Android devices, respectively, with the game even getting a Blackberry version in 2013. World of Goo was brought to Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch, in 2017, and a remastered version is also available to play for those with a Netflix subscription.

Fans have been waiting nearly two decades for a direct sequel to World of Goo, but they have been able to play games that use a near-identical art style in the meantime thanks to Tomorrow Corporation. Said games include Little Inferno, Human Resource Machine, and 7 Billion Humans. Those games certainly have their fans, though none of them have reached the same heights as World of Goo. Here’s hoping the unexpected sequel lives up to the extremely high bar set by its predecessor.
