Throughout the history of Activision’s shoot ’em up series, several different game modes have come and gone, and Sledgehammer Games’ latest entry, MW3, is no different. Of course, with the CoD fan base being one of the most loyal in the FPS genre, it stands to reason that a few OG fans are now pleading with the developers to bring back one exciting, high-stakes game mode that was last featured in Black Ops Cold War: Gunfight Tournaments.

For those unfamiliar, Gunfight Tournaments is precisely what its name implies: 16 teams of two players each face off against one another in a classic, bracketed format until only one squad is left standing. Unfortunately, with MW3 Season 1 Reloaded only having recently kicked off, this classic 2v2 competition won’t be making its way into the game anytime soon. However, this hasn’t stopped players from heading to social media sites like Reddit to call for its return to the latest series installment.

In a post on the MW3 subreddit, one wistful player said: “Gunfight Tournament needs to return. This [mode] was so much fun.” Naturally, this prompted other players to chime in with their own opinions of the game mode, as a commenter noted: “Gunfight/Gunfight Tournaments were legitimately the only reason I played aside from occasional [Team Deathmatch] matches.”

Some fans, however, weren’t lucky enough to experience the Gunfight Tournament era, with one user claiming: “I must have been living under a rock when that happened, [but] damn, that would be cool.” Sadly, Activision and Sledgehammer Games have given no indication of wanting to bring it back, so you may have to remain patient indefinitely to experience it yourself.
