Warner Bros’ crossover platform fighter MultiVersus has gained two more characters, and they’re both iconic movie villains who should send a shiver up the spine of even the most stalwart hero.
In a new trailer released earlier today, Warner Bros and developer Player First Games revealed that Friday the 13th slasher Jason Voorhees and The Matrix‘s Agent Smith will both be playable in MultiVersus.
They’re introduced in the trailer as The Joker’s accomplices; the Clown Prince of Crime, voiced once again by Mark Hamill, says he usually works alone, but he’ll “make an exception” in this instance.
We don’t get to see much more of either Jason or Agent Smith, so we don’t know how they’ll play just yet, but Jason looks positively massive, so expect a juggernaut-style moveset from him.
If Agent Smith’s portrayal is anything like it is in the movies, we can expect anything from martial arts through to fighting with an army of clones from him. We’ll have to wait and see.
Jason and Agent Smith are the two latest characters to be revealed for MultiVersus since its full relaunch was announced back in March.
Scheduled for May, MultiVersus 1.0 will include a host of changes, including new characters and stages, a shift to Unreal Engine 5, and rebuilt netcode that should improve the game’s online stability a tad.
MultiVersus was originally revealed in 2021, then subsequently released in beta the following year. Following its initial launch, the game’s roster expanded to include characters like Rick Sanchez, his nephew Morty, and Black Adam.
Other characters confirmed for the game’s 1.0 release include The Joker and, um, Adventure Time‘s Banana Guard. MultiVersus also includes stages based on locations from The Powerpuff Girls and Dexter’s Laboratory, so characters from those shows seem like a sure thing at this point.
In any case, MultiVersus launches across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on May 28th. It’ll be free-to-play, so make sure to download it and check it out if you’re looking for a distinctly Warner Bros-themed take on Super Smash Bros.
