Mortal Kombat 1 Reveals Ermac Gameplay and Release Dates

Highlights

  • Ermac and Mavado will join Mortal Kombat 1 in April and May respectively, exciting fans with new gameplay elements and classic moves.
  • Ermac’s gameplay showcases his unique abilities and soul-based design, with improved visuals and exciting fatalities.
  • With only two fighters left in the Kombat Pack, anticipation is high for Homelander and Takeda’s arrival in the game.

Netherrealm Studios finally releases the recently teased Ermac trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, showcasing the upcoming DLC character alongside the new Kameo fighter Mavado, as well as when players can add them to the roster. Following its launch last year, Netherrealm Studios continues to tweak and evolve the core Mortal Kombat 1 experience for fans both through updates as well as new character releases.

To the surprise of many, the recent addition of Peacemaker to Mortal Kombat 1 in February was a high note for the community, as the character introduced a number of interesting ways to play thanks to the abilities in his helmet. Janet Cage, a character who became popular with players after her appearance in the story mode, also added a dynamic new element to Kameo combat. As the Kombat Pack now reaches the halfway point, Netherrealm Studios is giving fans a new look at the arrival of the next fighter to the game, the classic red ninja Ermac.

Although there’s quite a bit of overlap between the best and most popular Mortal Kombat 1 characters, there are also one or two big surprises.

The trailer showcases numerous interactions between Ermac and others like Shao Khan, who uses one of the trapped souls to mimic the former Mortal Kombat boss character. While Ermac is a character made up of many souls through the use of Quan Chi’s magic, Netherrealm has gone out of its way to highlight that aspect through gameplay and the move set. With a number of classic moves returning for Ermac, the visual design on many of them has been improved, showcasing spirit hands, corporeal bodies, and other spirit released details to enhance how they look and behave during fights. Mavado also keeps his trademark mobility to zip in and extend combos, attack enemy players, or set traps to lock them down.

When Does Ermac and Mavado Launch for Mortal Kombat 1?

  • Ermac – April 16 for Early Access and April 23 for all players.
  • Mavado – Sometime in May

Reaction to the Ermac and Mavado reveal appears positive based on the video’s comments, with many applauding the fact that Netherrealm reacted to the negative response to Ermac’s initial Mortal Kombat 1 reveal by giving the character a mask. Other noticed that Mavado has his classic Deadly Alliance fatality, though it has been improved significantly for the game. For many, the highlight of the trailer appears to be Ermac’s fatality, which some in the community have likened to be one of the best currently in the game.

With Ermac officially joining the roster later this month, there are only two remaining fighters left in the Kombat Pack, with each exciting the fan base for different reasons. Homelander is the final guest character planned for this first Kombat Pack and there is no shortage of excitement over his arrival thanks to his featured role in Amazon’s TV series, The Boys. Finally, Takeda is a returning character from Mortal Kombat X, dubbed one of the “Kombat Kids” as he was originally the son of Kenshi and a student under Scorpion. However, rumors seem to indicate that Mortal Kombat 1 may change his timeline in some capacity.
