Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) release date, Operation Deadbolt, and story lore

I don’t know about you, but the upcoming Call of Duty game I’m most excited about is Modern Warfare Zombies. If you share my excitement, then you’ll want to know when the MWZ release date is and what the story is going to be about. Let’s dive into it.

When is the Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ) release date?

Modern Warfare Zombies, or MWZ as I hope everybody starts calling it, is officially releasing on November 10, 2023. This is the same exact day MW3 releases and we get a new Warzone map, which is the same map that we’ll play MWZ on.

Modern Warfare Zombies is a massive open-world extraction survival game mode that’ll play like DMZ but there will be familiar Call of Duty Zombies features like wall buy guns, special weapons like Ray Gun, bug bosses, easter eggs, and story missions. I can’t wait.

What is Operation Deadbolt in Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ)?

Operation Deadbolt is Task Force 141’s mission to explore the outbreak area and find intel on what Victor Zakhaev, an enemy arms dealer of Task Force 141, is planning. The first set of missions we play through in Modern Warfare Zombies will be Operation Deadbolt.

In the trailer, Operation Deadbolt consists of Soap, Kate Laswell, Sergei Ravenov, Selma Greene, and your own unnamed Operator. I’m guessing that we’ll play as any Operator we’d like and maybe Soap, Kate Laswell, and/or Sergei Revenov will be ally AI in MWZ or appear for a few missions here and there.

If you didn’t already have enough hype, check out the MWZ cinematic trailer.

The vial that breaks in the trailer contains Aetherium which is what creates zombies. What Zakhaev plans to do with it is exactly what we need to find out. Along with zombies, MWZ features Zakhaev’s hired guns called PMC. This group is hostile and has been hired to protect Zakhaev’s plans. Let’s put a stop to it.
