Re: Canada’s Homan wins gold at world women’s curling championship, online, March 24

Those of us who watched the Rachel Homan rink from the start until it won the women’s world curling gold recently by defeating Switzerland, which had won the medal four consecutive years before that, witnessed one of the greatest Canadian curling performances ever.

Homan is one of the greatest curlers Canada has ever produced, and she honed her skills in Ottawa. Yet this team is not getting the media coverage it so rightly deserves from our hockey-obsessed media!

NO EMPATHY FOR PUTIN

I have all the empathy and sympathy in the world for the victims, survivors, families and friends of the horrific attack at the concert in Moscow.

What I do not have is any empathy or commiseration for Vladimir Putin or his pathetic and hypocritical comments on the barbarism of the attack. After the brutal and barbaric invasion of a sovereign Ukraine and the suffering and misery he has inflicted in Ukraine, his hypocrisy knows no bounds and deserves no audience.

A pox on his likely insincere comments.

BADLY MISMANAGED

Prior to retiring, I worked the last few years in the federal government. I saw first-hand how badly mismanaged it was.

In the government, it’s all about empire-building and micromanaging in order to justify your managerial level.

To be a competent, hard-working individual, you would have to be self-motivated because there is little recognition for working your tail off.

Ironically, there are some very hardworking individuals despite the environment they work in.

Deep cuts are required, but hopefully the ones who are actually working don’t get swallowed up with the rest.

FINALLY SOME BALANCE

Re: Contentious debates; War leaves both sides unable to have productive conversations, March 23

Regarding Alex Vezina’s column on the Israel-Hamas conflict, it was indeed refreshing to read an article in the Sun where readers were asked to consider various viewpoints regarding the reasons for the conflict.

Sadly, in most instances, news reporters and editorial writers only present their own viewpoints or biases, which are lacking in objectivity and are divisive and negatively influence readers.
