Yoshihiro Togashi is one of the most well-known manga authors of all time. He has created two of the best manga series of all time, namely, Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter. While both titles are great, the common consensus is that Hunter x Hunter is Togashi’s magnum opus.

Hunter x Hunter started serializing in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998. So far, the manga has been collected in 36 volumes. Hunter x Hunter has sold over 80 million volumes, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time. It is a high number, considering the manga has gone on multiple breaks in the last ten years. The manga was adapted into an anime twice. The first adaptation was released in October 1999. It ran until 2001 and accumulated 62 episodes. The subsequent adaptation came out in October 2011. During this run, the anime released 148 episodes, with the final episode coming out in 2014. Both anime adaptations received a great deal of critical reception and are considered to be one of the best anime series of all time. They have also secured high ratings on sites such as MyAnimeList and IMDb. It is not a secret that Togashi has been struggling with health issues, due to which he is unable to focus on work. In a recent announcement, he confirmed one of the many endings that he has planned for Hunter x Hunter. He cited his health as the reason behind his decision, which is hardly surprising considering he started working on the manga in 1998.

Togashi’s decision to reveal the ending of Hunter x Hunter is for a good reason. According to the author, there are four separate endings planned for Hunter x Hunter. He labeled the four endings: A, B, C, and D. Out of the four, he only revealed the fourth ending because it ranked the lowest. In this particular ending, Togashi revealed that a girl named Jin was in focus. He stated that Jin was holding a fishing rod and waiting patiently for a bite. Not long afterward, she feels a tug. Jin begins to pull, and out comes the Lake Lord. She is overjoyed with her catch and shows it to her mother.

Jin tells her mother to stop asking her to become a Hunter. Her mother has no other option but to nod in agreement. As Jin begins to walk away, her mother talks to her husband. She tells him that Jin’s dream is to stay on the island forever and inherit the place. Jin’s father begins to laugh, much to the annoyance of his wife. Jin’s mother thinks that her husband and daughter have inherited their behavior from Mito and Noko.

Jin’s mother is unaware that Mito and Noko are not related by blood, but her husband doesn’t correct her. She talks about how Grandfather Gon was a Hunter and hopes that Jin will leave the island one day. Jin overhears her mother and shouts that she will never leave the island.

The next sequence is set in Mito’s shop, where Jin has neatly disassembled the Lake Lord. She begins to wonder why her mother is so insistent. Jin remembers how Grandma Noko is overcome by sadness every time Grandpa Gon talks about his days as a Hunter. Jin understands Noko’s pain and how difficult it is for someone to wait for months and months for the return of a dear one.

While Jin is lost in her thoughts, a kid enters the shop with a plant. Both he and Jin share their jubilation over capturing the incredible Lake Lord. Subsequently, they begin to cook the animal to share it with the rest of the village. But before that, Jin reveals that she is going to stay with the person that she wants to be.

The final scene shows a bird flying over the island and the town. Then the focus changes to three different characters, who seem to be the new heroes. A mysterious character watches all of this unfold in the background. It is unclear who this character is, but there are many characters who fit the mold. Or there is a chance that it could be a brand new enemy who is monitoring the young ones.

With the reveal of one of the endings, some fans may feel let down because it might ruin their experience. But the more important thing is Togashi’s health, and if he manages to stay healthy, it would be better for everyone.

If his health improves, then he can simply bring an end to the series at the appropriate time. A few years ago, manga enthusiasts suffered the loss of Kentarou Miura, the author of Berserk. He died before concluding the story, which left fans hanging. So, Hunter x Hunter fans should be more understanding and give all their support to Togashi.
