  • Despite initial server issues, Helldivers 2 garnered massive popularity & continues to receive support from fans.
  • The small dev team of 100 members at Arrowhead Games Studios is working hard to accommodate its growing player base.

Helldivers 2 developers have been actively working on improving the game’s servers over the past few days, and another server cap increase is on the way. Helldivers 2 recently had its first weekend without having any major outages and, with the upcoming changes, the developers seem to be more optimistic about alleviating the annoying in-game queues.

Amid the big releases of this year, Helldivers 2 turned out to be a dark horse and shattered several records upon its release. Although the game faced a number of hiccups due to the massive traction it was getting, fans have continued to support the game. While the server issues have definitely gotten better, many are still encountering issues with certain aspects like Personal Orders in Helldivers 2. For now, though, the developers’ primary focus seems to be on the servers, as another huge change is on the way.

Helldivers 2 New Server Capacity Revealed By Developers

As highlighted in an X post by the CEO of Arrowhead Games Johan Pilestedt, Helldivers 2 has received a server capacity increase to account for the massive hype the game is getting. The revamped volume will allow the game to handle 800,000 concurrent users at once. However, it has been stated that players might still witness “light queues” while trying to enter the game during peak hours. Pilestedt also highlights the importance of the development, stressing the fact that the Helldivers 2 team merely consists of about 100 developers.

This is the second server capacity increase Helldivers 2 has witnessed in the past few days. On February 22, the maximum capacity was increased to 700,000, and at that point, the developers had revealed that players might still face issues since the player count can easily touch that number. For the record, the game’s daily all-time peak has been hovering around the half-million mark over the past few days on Steam. That is of course, without taking into account the PlayStation userbase, which is estimated to be quite close to the PC number.

Over on Reddit, fans have been quite receptive to the change, lauding the efforts of such a small team. Some even highlighted that the hate the game has received due to server issues isn’t justified, considering the fact that the developers weren’t expecting the game to become as popular as it has. With more players showing interest in jumping back into the game after the server cap increase, it will be interesting to see how many more records Helldivers 2 ends up breaking.
