The Game Awards was a decent event for video game trailers. It was previously leaked that Kratos was returning through God of War Ragnarok DLC, and the Game Awards turned the leak into reality with the reveal trailer. It is a completely free update, and Sony has revealed the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC release date and time so you know exactly when it will come out to download.
Aside from GoW DLC, there’s plenty else to anticipate this month. Sony is set to reveal the PS Plus Extra and Premium December 2023 games, and don’t forget there’s the new game plus release time for Alan Wake 2. As for PlayStation, there are no new exclusives until The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered comes out in January 2024. Leaks about the remaster initially had people riled up thanks to comparisons to The Last of Us Part 1 Remake, but in actuality, TLOU2 Remaster is a fine enhancement as a $10 upgrade for existing owners.
While The Last of Us 2 Part 2 Remastered has an upgrade fee, the good news is that the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC is completely free to download. And it’s coming out sooner than many fans expected.
God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC release date
The release date for the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC is December 12th. This is confirmed on the official PlayStation Blog post. It stars Kratos once more, and this time he is away from his son Atreus.
It is an epilogue for the newest GoW adventure. Per the PlayStation Blog post, Kratos embarks on a ‘deeply personal and reflective journey’ after washing up on the shores of Valhalla. There is no Artreus bickering by his side, but there is at least Mimir still hanging by Kratos’ waist.
Ultimately, the DLC is a roguelike. You will fight rounds of enemies, and you will be able to retry after death. Each victory comes with resources to put into permanent upgrades, and you will unlock rewards, too. While you will have access to all of Kratos’ weapons and fully upgraded skill trees, you will need to commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage.
When does the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC come out?
The release time for when the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC will come out is 9 AM PT/ 12 PM ET/ 5 PM GMT on December 12th. Again, this comes courtesy of an official announcement from Sony.
When you do step into Valhalla, know that there will be five difficulty settings for you to master. Each setting will up the ante with tougher enemies and combat combined with better and more rewards. Some of these rewards include unique armor. And, unlike the story, the armor in the DLC is purely cosmetic so you can look as bewitching as you want without having to worry about practicality.

How to download Valhalla for free
You will be able to download the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla DLC for free once the release time passes. Rather than just an update, it will need to be downloaded from the PlayStation store. Of course, you will need to own the base game in order to download and play.
If you have not finished the story, you needn’t worry as you can play the expansion at any time. It is completely independent of your progress in the main story, but it is still recommended that you finish the story first to avoid spoilers. This is because the DLC acts as an epilogue.
