It’s finally here! The new Fortnite season has landed, with fans jumping into Myths and Mortals, ready to take on the Gods!

Of course, a new season brings plenty of change to the game, with altered weapons, fresh bosses, and new rewards to get on the Battle Pass. With Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, there has been one specific gameplay change that fans are already praising Epic Games for making.

Previously seen in Chapter 5 Season 1, this mechanic has been updated to grant epic new abilities to those brave enough to step into the line of fire (or thunderbolts!). But what is this, we hear you ask? Read on to find out…

Power of the Gods

Medallions were introduced in Season 1 of Chapter 5, a bonus item you could gain from defeating a boss – or from a player who was carrying one. When added to your inventory, they would recover shield over time, with more medallions adding shield faster, and with a higher cap.

These also worked as keycards to access vaults and made you invisible to sentry cameras and sentry turrets. The only downside was revealing your rough location on the map, although that’s only a downside if you want to try and be stealthy!

With Season 5 Chapter 2, there is a new array of bosses, therefore a new array of medallions. However, this time there are added perks for keeping hold of them.

Previously, players would often drop medallions after shielding up and completing a vault, seeing the risk of holding one outweighing the shield rejuvenation that came with it. Now, there is more reason to hold them in your inventory.

Each medallion now grants a special effect to the holder. One increases speed and jumping, another boosts ranged weapons damage, the third a healing siphoning effect, and the final one Underworld Dash for quick bursts.

The different bosses each have their own medallion with a different effect. So, if you want to gain the perks, you have to be up for a battle with Zeus, Ares, Hades, or Cerberus!
