Square Enix has announced its Splatoon-esque PlayStation exclusive shooter Foamstars will be releasing in February, and will launch directly onto PlayStation Plus, meaning subscribers will be able to grab it for no extra charge.
The game, first unveiled back during the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, will see two teams of four go up against each other in the party-themed shooter, where rather than bullets, players will be dousing their opponents in colourful foam. There’ll be three game modes at launch – with a brand new Rubber Duck Party mode joining the two other game modes previously seen in the game’s closed beta late last year.
Square Enix has also announced that the game will be getting seasonal updates over at least the first year of launch, with a season pass available for players to earn additional items – with a Premium Tier of course for those who want even more. There’ll also be – we’re promised – additional maps, characters and modes.

What platforms is Foamstars releasing for?
Foamstars will be available exclusively on PlayStation platforms, therefore the game will only be available on the following:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
Is Foamstars on PS Plus?
At launch, Foamstars will be available on PS Plus as part of a subscription for one month. Subscribers will be able to get the game for no additional cost from February 6 to March 4, 2024.
How much will Foamstars cost?
At launch, Foamstars will be free to keep for the first month as part of a PS Plus subscription. After March 5, 2024, Foamstars will cost £24.99 or regional equivalent.
If you’re on PS Plus and you get the game while it’s free – you will continue to be able to access and play the game after March 5 as long as you maintain your PS Plus subscription.
Will Foamstars have a season pass?
Yes, Foamstars will have a season pass. Each season will see a bunch of new modes, cosmetics, playable characters and maps added to the game. However, each season will also come with an optional Premium Season Pass which will cost £4.99 – allowing players to immediately unlock all Season Pass characters and additional cosmetics.
