The release of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 has unsurprisingly brought players several new toys of mass destruction to play around with in the ever-changing battle royale map. But one deadly piece of equipment continues to stand out among the rest because of its similarity to an iconic God of War weapon: the Grapple Blade.

Introduced as part of the Fortnite Chapter 5 update alongside the Gold and Fancy Peter Griffin skin, the Grapple Blade is already being touted as one of the most enjoyable weapons in the current meta due to the mobility and shield-piercing melee damage it grants players. Over on Reddit, people are showcasing the absurd clips they’ve recorded, as one player shared a kill they secured using the grapple’s auto-aim mechanism, while another earned a victory royale because of its hard-hitting melee strike.

The Grapple Blade’s spin attack, in particular, has even prompted some fans to compare it to the iconic God of War weapon, the Blades of Chaos. For those unfamiliar, Kratos’s favored pair of Chained Blades can not only be used to rain havoc down on unlucky enemies but also to traverse locations that otherwise can’t be reached via conventional means, making it a relatively accurate comparison. Of course, the hellish Blades of Chaos are arguably much more deadly than its Fortnite-based counterpart.

Though it’s unclear if the Blades of Chaos directly inspired the Grapple Blade, it’s safe to say that Kratos’s signature weapon, with its unique design, helped influence some of its aspects.
