The Best Ending for The Chosen of Bhaal

The Dark Urge is Finally Free

The most immediate option is to immediately commit suicide before Bhaal’s influence can take hold. The Dark Urge stabs themselves in a violent scene and dies. The scene transitions to show the Dark Urge in a limbo landscape, where they awaken and are visited by Withers.

A New Beginning for The Dark Urge

Withers remarks that Bhaal’s influence on the Dark Urge has been silenced forever, and calls them “friend”. He tells them that he cannot tell what their future in death will be. Withers tells the Dark Urge: “I cannot account for thee adventurer, hero, friend, but I know thy story endeth not here.” This is a far more optimistic ending for the Dark Urge than remaining alive. Despite ending in death, there’s still hope for a new beginning free of Bhaal’s influence, all while keeping the respect and friendship of Withers.

The Worst Ending in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Dark Urge Goes to Prison

After betraying Bhaal at the last moment, the Dark Urge can choose to surrender themselves to be imprisoned under heavy guard. After a short time skip, it’s shown that their mind has deteriorated under Bhaal’s influence, and they’ve become nothing more than a rabid creature. The Dark Urge is visited by Withers in prison, who looks on them with pity and remarks on how history will remember them. Rather than putting the Dark Urge out of their misery by killing them, he leaves them to their imprisonment.

The Slave to Bhaal

Six months later, the Dark Urge appears at Withers’ party with their former companions. The Dark Urge is shown to be completely overcome by Bhaal’s influence in this grotesque ending.

  • The narrator explains they escaped prison and have been killing at random since.
  • They came to the party because something drew them to it.
  • The Dark Urge doesn’t quite recognize their old companions, except for their romance.
  • All the dialogue options available are screams, moans, or half-formed words.
  • They don’t have full control over their bodily functions.
  • The only coherent thoughts they have are to praise Bhaal and to kill.

The Alternative to Withers’ Party

The Dark Urge stands on the outskirts of the clearing and waits until everyone goes to sleep before striking. Baldur’s Gate 3 then ends with them stumbling forward into the camp, with the outcome not shown to the player. This ending is particularly cruel and is probably the worst outcome in Baldur’s Gate 3, with the Dark Urge becoming nothing more than a flesh puppet for Bhaal. Attempting to resist Bhaal results in the same outcome without the prison cutscene.

The Tragedy of the Bhaalspawn

The futility of the Dark Urge resisting Bhaal, with death being the only way out, highlights the tragedy of the Dark Urge as a character, particularly if they want to follow their own path without Bhaal’s influence. Restoring some of their memory with the level 6 spell Heal reveals they first murdered the family that adopted them when they were still a child, and it’s likely it was only because of Bhaal’s influence they did so.
