In a tweet commemorating the 30th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls franchise, Bethesda Game Studios revealed how far the sixth game has come. The company shared an update on the development of the long-awaited Elder Scrolls VI. This was at the end of a long message, but it gave us an idea of where the game is in development.
Bethesda’s announcement ended with a direct reference to the next main game in the series: “Last but not least, yes, we are working on the next chapter—The Elder Scrolls VI. Even now, going back to Tamriel and trying early versions fills us with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure.” Though it doesn’t give many specific details, this statement confirms that they are far enough in the game to test.
Previously, we thought the company was only in the conception stages and was still working on Starfield. Early testing generally involves physics, movement, and nothing resembling a real game. However, if it’s enough to give them joy, it resembles enough of a game that we know it’s in a good stage. Still, that does not mean there are quests or anything like that. We’re thinking maybe a landscape and the ability to walk through, still physics testing or something similar.
The rest of Bethesda’s anniversary tweet looked back on the series. It spoke on the freedom of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the political intrigue of Daggerfall, Morrowind’s exotic settings, Oblivion’s mystical realms, and Skyrim’s dragon-filled landscapes.
The latest news highlights the dedication to safeguarding the heritage of these games. It includes free downloads of Arena and Daggerfall, updates to ensure compatibility with older versions of Morrowind and Oblivion, and the widespread availability of Skyrim on various platforms.
Alongside looking back, Bethesda shared updates on other current projects. They mentioned the 10th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls Online and its dedicated community. They also talked about the soft-launched mobile title, The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Additionally, the studio showcased the latest Creations system for Skyrim, showing more support for fan-made content for the enduring RPG.
Fans can expect a substantial wait for the full release of The Elder Scrolls VI; don’t misunderstand. However, this update shows positive progress on the highly anticipated sequel. We are excited to hear more about development, too, and we’ll add more news when more word comes out.
