Dozens of Street Fighter Characters Aren’t in SF6, But 4 Deserve to Return The Most

Highlights

  • Street Fighter 6 boasts a diverse roster with unique characters like Ed, bringing back several favorites and introducing new play styles.
  • However, there are still dozens of characters that are not included in the game, some of which deserves to come back.
  • Four of the characters that fans would be most interested in seeing again are M. Bison, Q, G, and Makoto.

Fighting games like Street Fighter 6 live and die by the uniqueness of every character in their roster. The current lineup is quite diverse, with new and old characters filling out different roles and archetypes, like grappler, shoto, projectile, and mix-up. The game will also get its first boxer: Ed, soon. This DLC character returns from his appearances in SF4 and SF5. Capcom often brings back old characters into its new games, which is easier now that they can do so through DLCs. The Street Fighter franchise has accumulated over 121 playable characters over the decades, and many of them have yet to return to Street Fighter 6.

While Street Fighter fans are spoiled for choice regarding their character roster, this wasn’t always the case. The original SF only had Ryu and Ken as its playable characters, and they practically had identical moves. The line-up diversified with the release of Street Fighter 2 over 30 years ago, which introduced Chun-Li, Guile, Sagat, Dhalsim, Akuma, and more. The rest was history, as the franchise continued to add more unique fighters to each game. The developers continuously innovate when it comes to moves and mechanics, too. With more than a hundred characters released so far, it’s safe to say that there’s a fighter for almost every type of player, and Street Fighter 6 may want to consider bringing back some missing fan favorites.

Fan-favorite Characters That Should Return in SF6

Some characters are more popular than others for their strength, versatility, and even appearance and charm. As such, there are fighters that many fans are hoping will make a return to Street Fighter 6. These include:

  • M. Bison: This character was canonically defeated in Street Fighter 5 at the hands of Ryu. He faded away, consumed by the Power of Nothingness, and his base of operations was destroyed. However, a resurrection story wouldn’t be a long shot, as M.Bison is the best villain Street Fighter. Plus, he’s massively popular among competitive players for his high damage output and unique psychic attacks, which have him teleporting and dashing across the screen.
  • Makoto: Fans love this fighter because of her move set and lore. She joined competitions and even challenged Ryu to bring her family’s dojo back to its former glory. In-game, she makes up for her slow ground movement with high-damage hits. She even had a sure-kill combo in SF3: Third Strike, though this wasn’t the best win condition to work toward because of its difficulty. Plus, Makoto’s design and fighting style are simple, which is a nice change of pace from the loud costumes and complicated moves of her contemporaries in SF3 and SF4.
  • Q and G: These characters are so unusual that they’ve built a solid fanbase. Q has a cool robot noir detective look and distinct animations, though his moves might need buffs. G refers to himself as the President of the World, and it’s hard to argue with that because of his Lincoln-inspired default outfit. He’s also consistently in the mid to top-tier because of his poke potential with his fireball and solid anti-air with his crouch heavy punch normal and back heavy punch command normal. His V-Trigger 2 skills hit hard, but can also juggle enemies or lead to a hard knockdown.
