Destiny 2 Reveals Crossover with The Witcher Promising Cosmetics Inspired by Geralt of Rivia

A crossover between Destiny 2 and The Witcher was not in my bingo card for this year, but it’s actually happening, as just announced by Bungie.

The sci-fi first-person-shooter will get cosmetics inspired by Geralt of Rivia including armor ornaments, a Ghost shell, a ship, a Sparrow, an emote, and a finisher.

The new cosmetics will come with the next season, Season of The Wish, which will launch on November 28 bringing a lot of new content to the popular live service game.

“Where are you going next Geralt?” “I was thinking a quick trip to space may be in order.”

This follows a round of layoffs that impacted Bungie, causing the departure of 100 employees. Incidentally, the report by Bloomberg alleged that the next expansion for Destiny 2 The Final Shape had been internally delayed to June, but today’s official press release reiterates that the Season of the Wish is the last before the expansion launches.

We’ll have to wait and see whether the report proved premature or things change, as it’d be strange to have a season last for over 7 months. The announced release date for The Final Shape is February 27, 2024.

In the meanwhile, on the other side of the crossover,  work on the new Witcher game in Unreal Engine 5 continues, with an increasingly large team having moved onto the new project at CD Projekt RED. On top of that, the super-popular The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a mod editor next year, which will likely expand its already impressive longevity even further.

This comes among big changes at the Polish developer, which saw the election of two new join CEOs, former CD Projekt RED head of studio Adam Badowski and former chief commercial officer Michał Nowakowski.

The two mentioned that they intend to preserve the positive aspects of the company, but they also have “huge ambitions” to reach new heights, and promised “a shi*load of entertainment.”
