Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive have revealed a brand new Cities: Skylines 2 roadmap that shows what you can expect from the city-builder in the coming months.

Over on the official Paradox forums, Paradox reveals the roadmap, showing when certain DLC packs will arrive. The Beach Properties asset pack and Deluxe Relax radio station are now due to arrive sometime in Q1 2024.

Q2 2024, meanwhile, will see the launch of the Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades creator packs, as well as the Soft Rock and Cold Wave radio stations and the Bridges and Ports expansion.

In an accompanying Word of the Week post, Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen explains the studio’s rationale for the roadmap.

As Colossal Order has previously said, no paid DLC will be released until the studio is happy with Cities: Skylines 2‘s performance, and since updates are still actively being worked on to address this issue, it’ll be a while until paid DLC is available.

Hallikainen says the team’s priorities are as follows: performance improvements first, then bug fixes, then support for modding and the game’s Editor.

As was announced last week, Cities: Skylines 2 won’t be getting weekly patches from now on, either; since the team is now looking into issues that “require a bit more work”, patches will become more sporadic.

Updates for Cities: Skylines 2 are going to become less frequent.

So, what’s in Colossal Order’s scope next? According to the Word of the Week post, the first priority is improving GPU performance via level-of-detail models for assets.

Following that, the team will work on CPU performance improvements, which should address stutter and simulation performance so that as your city scales up, you should have a smoother experience.

Bugs to be fixed include issues with the mail service in which post vans are just collecting mail and never delivering it, as well as problems with citizens reserving housing and issues with export and distribution of goods.

The next Cities: Skylines 2 update doesn’t have a timeline yet, but we’ll bring you more on it as soon as we have it. #

In the meantime, Cities: Skylines 2 is available for PC right now, and it’s due to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S next year.
