Cities: Skylines 2 developer Colossal Order has promised that no paid DLC will be released for its city-builder until the game’s performance has been addressed.

In a new “Word of the Week” dev post on Steam, Colossal Order says it will not release paid content until “the outstanding performance issues are fixed to our standards”.

Colossal Order is a small team, according to CEO Mariina Hallikainen, and so the dev must “focus on the task at hand to avoid spreading too thin”.

Cities: Skylines 2 launched to some consternation from users concerned about its performance.

The post also contains a look ahead at what Colossal Order is planning for the next major Cities: Skylines 2 update, which is due this week.

After last week’s update focused in on performance tweaks and optimization, this week, Colossal Order says it’s “really digging into Garbage”.

The garbage feature in Cities: Skylines 2 has bugs including garbage trucks disappearing, processing being out of balance, and storage being randomly filled for no reason.

These bugs, according to Colossal Order, have been fixed, and the balance of the garbage feature is also being addressed in the upcoming update.

Features are on the way to improve your Cities: Skylines 2 experience.

In addition to garbage, Colossal Order is also looking into stray dogs, which are, in the developer’s view, far too numerous at the moment.

Colossal Order says that right now, in Cities: Skylines 2, “an insane number” of abandoned dog packs are loose in cities, partly because newlyweds don’t adopt their partner’s dogs and instead simply abandon them.

However, Colossal Order also says that this bug could be turned into a feature in future, with a potential “animal shelter DLC” introducing new animal rescue policies and challenges for your city.

Next week, Hallikainen says she and Colossal Order will be talking about the game’s upcoming Editor and what it will feature when it’s ready for release.

Cities: Skylines 2 is available right now on PC. The game is also set to launch on consoles sometime in spring next year.
