Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6 released early in the morning on Friday, February 16 for PC, Playstation, and Xbox. While fans expected a Valentine’s Day drop with all that smooching promo, we’re happy to finally have access to all the new features.

The file size is 21GB and will require around 150GB of free space for PC & Steam Deck. Larian confirms that Mac players will get the update eventually, but they don’t have a release window in mind just yet.

Larian also notes that those using mods for the game may experience issues when they download the patch. Since mods are not officially supported for the game, some may not work properly with the new patch installed. If you have issues with the game after downloading Patch 6, they recommend uninstalling your mods to see if that helps.

On February 16, Larian Studios shared the full patch notes for Patch 6 along with the update itself, which Baldur’s Gate 3 fans can now finally download after all that teasing.

They weren’t kidding about this being a hefty patch full of gameplay updates and bug fixes, so hopefully it’ll be worth the wait. Here are the highlights from Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6’s patch notes.

Gameplay Improvements

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 6 includes a variety of gameplay improvement updates. Here are the highlights from the patch notes.

First things first, about those new kiss animations. Patch 6 includes new kissing styles that are intended to reflect the personalities of each character. They’ve also improved those pesky height difference issues, smoothing out smooches for shorter and taller bodies.

Endgame cinematics for romances have also been improved, with the intention of better showcasing the connection between players and their chosen partner. If I could just get literally anyone to love me, I’d be excited to see this in action.

Players will be able to dismiss a current party member companion while speaking to the party member they want to replace them with. No more running back and forth to get rid of Lae’zel and replace her with Karlach for story reasons.

Characters will also be a bit more animated at camp, literally. Patch 6 adds new idle animations for certain companions so we can get a sense of what they do during their downtime. Halsin whittles now, guys. How druidic of him.

Automatically triggered dialogue will now default to prioritizing your avatar as the main speaker in cutscenes, rather than accidentally swapping in whoever happened to walk into the area first.

If you play in Honour Mode, you can expect to see new Legendary Actions for bosses to make combat even trickier.

Bug Fixes

We love an improvement to gameplay, but fixing bugs is a key reason for new patches, and Patch 6 has a few fixes in store.

Errors with Shield Bash and Rebuke of the Mighty have been fixed so that they actually trigger Saving Throws when appropriate.

An issue causing Xbox games to crash when starting or closing out of the game has been remedied. Several other potential crash-causing problems have also been addressed, and when I say several I mean it.

Various problems with scenes and dialogue not properly triggering at various points have been fixed as well, but we won’t mention them by name to avoid spoilers.

User Interface / Quality of Life Improvements

The trading and bartering system got an overhaul, including clearer imagery for which character is bartering and the ability to easily access your whole party’s inventory from the trade screen.

Players can change the text size when reading books and letters, and we of poor eyesight thank Larian for that.
