BABY BOOM: First baby of 2024 born in Brampton

A girl born at Brampton Civic Hospital was the first baby delivered in 2024.

Weighing eight pounds, six ounces, she arrived at the stroke of midnight, officials at William Osler Health System said in a news release.

Hospital officials congratulated mother Guneet Kaur as well as the child’s father, who was not identified.

Right behind the Brampton delivery, Trillium Health Partners announced the arrival of Mississauga’s first bundle of joy this year, a baby born at 12:12 a.m. at Credit Valley Hospital.

“Congratulations to the proud parents on the arrival of your beautiful baby!,” THP said in a statement.

Less than 15 minutes later, two other newborns made their way into the world.

Scarborough Health Network announced a girl was born at 12:14 a.m., while at the same time in York Region, baby Lucas made his debut at Southlake Regional Health Centre to Newmarket parents Reem and Bisher.

“The hospital confirmed both the baby and mother are doing well,” SRHC said in a congratulatory message.

Baby Mia was next at 12:27 a.m., weighing seven pounds, 14 ounces, marking the first arrival at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, Mackenzie Health announced.

“We’re very grateful to everyone here,” first-time parents Katie and Vic said in a statement. “Having the first baby of 2024 was really special.”

Soon after, another Brampton couple welcomed their baby at Etobicoke General Hospital at 12:32 a.m.

Five minutes later, Toronto’s Mount Sinai announced the arrival of its first 2024 baby.

Little Botelho was born at 12:37 a.m., Sinai Health announced.
