All Ship Modules (& Unlock Requirements)

Liberating hostile alien planets is not an easy job to do in Helldivers 2. You not only need to rely on your friends in co-op but also your ability to call in powerful stratagems that can (and will) leave the planet in ruins. Whether that requires summoning airstrikes to drop explosive payloads, directing orbital barrages, or deploying sentries, you will need every stratagem at your disposal to gain an upper hand while fighting the Terminids and Automatons.




Your stratagems, though, must be upgraded to improve their effectiveness at higher-difficulty missions. That can be done by upgrading your Ship Modules through the Ship Management terminal, located just before the Armory, where you change your titles in Helldivers 2. This is where you spend your hard-earned samples, which you are going to need a lot of. Below is a list of all Ship Modules in Helldivers 2, what they do, and the number of samples required to unlock them.

Updated April 14, 2024, by Saqib Mansoor: Helldivers 2 has received all-new level 4 upgrades for all ship modules alongside the release of the new premium warbond, Democratic Detonation. These are tailored for specific playstyles and are pretty expensive to unlock compared to the other upgrades.

You do not need to purchase Democratic Detonation to access the new ship upgrades. You only need to update your game to the latest patch.



How to Unlock All Ship Modules in Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 Ship Module Effects and Samples Required

Ship Modules are split between six categories, one for each stratagem, all containing four levels of upgrades in Helldivers 2. While you can choose any ship module category to upgrade first, their individual upgrade levels must be unlocked sequentially.

That means you need to unlock the level 1 upgrade of Orbital Cannons, for example, before unlocking its level 2. You cannot jump directly to level 4.

Since the cost of samples increases with each level, and farming samples is time-consuming, you need to be absolutely sure which ship module to unlock first in Helldivers 2.


You need a total of 2,430 common (green) samples, 1,670 rare (orange) samples, 165 very rare (pink) samples, and 140,000 Requisition Slips to unlock all Ship Modules in Helldivers 2.

You are not going to do that anytime soon. Samples are hard to come by, and the chances of finding every sample on a mission are low. Make it a habit to explore all points of interest on the map to get hold of some samples before extraction.

Samples are shared between all players in a squad, so stop killing your teammates to steal their samples!
