A slew of much-needed updates on the frustrating MW3 SBMM is on the horizon after Activision and Sledgehammer Games recently released a statement acknowledging the avalanche of complaints that players have lodged since the game’s launch. In it, the developers not only promised more transparency about how it works but will also share the insights and improvements they’ve made throughout the years.
Now, the community’s ever-present struggle against SBMM isn’t a new development, as the MW2 player base was similarly disgruntled with this frustratingly strict multiplayer system. Though numerous fans had long been calling for devs to improve or, at times, completely get rid of it, the public has been met with crickets, as past development teams, like Infinity Ward, often wholly ignored the steady stream of pleas and suggestions.
Fortunately, Sledgehammer Games’s latest tenure as the lead studio in creating the newest series installment is off to a relatively good start, especially now that they’ve announced their plans for SBMM. The MW3 devs started their statement by acknowledging the ongoing interest surrounding the matchmaking system, which they followed up by saying: “Nothing is more important to us than the experience players have with the game, and matchmaking is a big part of that.”
“We’ve been working on our matchmaking system for well over ten years, and we continue to spend a ton of time and energy on improving the matchmaking process,” they continued. “It’s a large effort that we’ve worked on for many years, and our approach combines latency, search time, and skill, along with many other factors, to try to find the best match experience for you.”
They ended their announcement by saying: “Talking about this topic in detail can be hard and we haven’t spent the time to pull together all of our work to share with you our insights and improvements over the many years. We’re looking forward to doing that in the coming weeks after Season 1 launches, and we’ll also make it a part of our ongoing discussions with the community.” However, it remains to be seen what their plans to improve SBMM are, as the MW3 Season 1 start date is still yet to kick off.
Luckily, the game’s first massive update is only a few winks away, so you won’t have to wait long to find out more about the future status of SBMM. While you wait, check out our guides on the MW3 gear and perks list, the MW3 operators list, and the best M4 loadout in MW3.
