Paizo Inc. has announced a major change in the fantasy world of Golarion. Pathfinder War of Immortals is a new widespread meta event for the fantasy TTRPG, one that will explore the ramifications, big and small around one pivotal change in the status quo: what happens when one of the gods dies?
The Pathfinder War of Immortals meta event announcement
The events leading up to Pathfinder War of Immortals began about six months ago when Paizo began teasing the death of one of Pathfinder’s 20 core deities.
Ratcheting up the tension on who was on the chopping block, they published the Godsrain Prophecies, a collection of prophecies that would mark one of the gods as safe. These prophecies were written by Erin Roberts (Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel) and published on a weekly basis starting on February 7th.
That is until a Twitch livestream on April 16th Here, Paizo announced that it was Our Lord In Iron Gorum, the god of battle and strength, had met his end. As for who did the deed, how, and why, players will discover answers for themselves in upcoming books.
The rest of the Twitch stream was dedicated to showcasing upcoming books and products tying into Pathfinder War of Immortals. This includes a new 240-page hardcover book, which will introduce mythic rules to Pathfinder Second Edition Remastered as well as two brand new character classes: the Animist and the Exemplar.
The sourcebook will also detail the ramifications of Gorum’s death. This includes the Godsrain, a literal shower of his blood, shattered armor, and divine essence covering the world, leaving war and mythic power in its wake. The Pathfinder War of Immortals sourcebook will be available in hardcover, limited-edition hardcover, and pocket edition in October 2024.
Understandably, Gorum’s death would have a notable effect on the divine landscape of the setting. This is where the second announced sourcebook, Pathfinder Lost Omens: Divine Mysteries explores. It updates and remasters existing deities in the setting as well as introduces new ones like Aleph, the god of darkness, and Nin, the god of vampires.
Pathfinder Lost Omens: Divine Mysteries will be available November 2024.
As for adventure paths tying into these events, Pathfinder War of Immortals will produce two. One is Curtain Call, an adventure path for adventurers levels 11-20 as they work to produce an opera based on their past exploits. While seemingly light, Paizo assures players that the opera will give them “a front-row seat to the Godsrain.”
The Curtain Call adventure path will release in three parts. The first part will debut at Gencon 2024. Part two will be released in August 2024, and part three will be available in September 2024.
The second adventure path, Triumph of the Tusk is for adventurers levels 3-11. Here, players will fight alongside the orcs of Belzen in their war for independence as war rages across Golarion. The first part of this path will release October 2024, and continue through December 2024.
Last but not least, Pathfinder War of the Immortals will include a new hardcover fantasy novel. The novel, titled Pathfinder: Godsrain and written by Liane Merciel, follows iconic heroes Ezren, Amiri, Kyra, and Merisielas they witness the fall of the Godsrain and are faced with the consequences (and opportunities) of mythic power.
The novel will release in November 2024.
