The main element of Once Human is survival. Without that part, you can’t craft and fight well — or at all. Knowing how to survive properly is fundamental, but you won’t get far without setting up camp at the best locations to build in Once Human. The spots in this guide aren’t fixed, but they should give you a good idea of where to start building.
Once Human: Best locations to build
Before going on, each of the following areas aren’t landmarks. They’re great areas that I’ve used to build bases. The reason is that they’re around almost everything you’ll need. Additionally, if you’re farming one specific ingredient, some of these locations can help with that.
Ideal places to make a base
Near dense vegetation: Forested areas are in abundance, and rich with many resources. For my first camp, I made one in the middle of the woods. This made creating many things for my base easier since wood is a vital resource. It can help make things like charcoal and other equipment. These areas are also good for gathering food like berries.
By starting in an area with a lot of vegetation, you can get all the basic resources quickly. So when you level up and move to another spot, building more advanced items becomes easier.
Build around minerals: Iron and steel are also important. The primary ingredient for many weapons is either of those two minerals. So when there’s a high amount nearby, upgrading and getting better weapons will be consistent. However, I didn’t prioritize the minerals as much till I was around levels nine and 10. This was around the time I created my second base and when those resources mattered more.
Most of these areas in Once Human might be heavily populated with enemies. Make sure you are armed well and at the right level before journeying all that way.
Make camp near water: If you build near water, you might not have to move for a long time. You can fish, and collect water, and if you are near the sea, you can gather salt water. Depending on which body of water you build your base near, other things may be attracted to the area like deer. In other words, gathering hide, water, and food can be done in succession of one another.
However, if you plan on drinking water make sure you purify it because it’s dirty out right. I learned the hard way that drinking bad water has lasting effects. The other thing that I would note for you is to watch out for crocodiles. They hang out near water and can damage you quite a bit. Before making a base near a river or stream, double-check for any predators and take them out so they don’t come back.
