EVEN MORE FOR CBC?

Re: Ottawa shovelling more cash at CBC, March 1

If Canadian taxpayers actually needed another example of federal Liberal incompetence, then here it is. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving.

It’s difficult to believe that they’re increasing the CBC handouts by another $100 million, especially after the CBC announced employee layoffs while retaining executive bonuses.

I suppose that, with our “esteemed” prime minister’s popularity sinking, he’s counting on the CBC to continue to dole out Liberal Kool-Aid to the masses.

BIGGER SCANDAL

Re: BATRA’S BURNING QUESTIONS: CSIS documents prove foreign meddling at Winnipeg lab, online, March 1

This is a much bigger scandal than SNC-Lavalin, the WE Charity or China’s interference in elections as this one directly involved a threat to national security. The fact scientists Xiangguo Qiu and husband Keding Cheng, while working at the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg, had a clandestine relationship with a group in China is frightening.

Another troubling factor is that, after both were escorted out of the building in 2019 and later fired, Justin Trudeau refused to reveal the facts. As they say, the coverup in politics is often more egregious than the initial offence.

CONSUMERS DISTRIBUTING MEMORIES

Re: YOU SAID IT: ‘Booze to the Future,’ letter to the editor, online, March 1

According to the letter writer, 95 per cent of LCBO thefts would be eliminated if the LCBO did what was done in the ’50s and ’60s. Everyone would fill out a form and hand it to the clerk. The clerk would give the form to someone else who would find the alcohol and bring it to the front.

I wasn’t buying alcohol in the ’50s and ’60s, but many years ago I shopped at Consumers Distributing. You filled out a form, handed it to someone, waited for the item to be brought up to the front and then you paid for the item. At Christmas time, it was a nightmare.

Anyway, no offence to the letter writer (which really won’t make this less offensive), but I’d have to be drunk to suggest the LCBO do what it did in the ’50s and ’60s, which is the same thing Consumers Distributing did many years ago.

To end whatever this is, I don’t drink. It’d be a sad day if I had to wait in a long line because a recipe calls for a half-cup of wine (not cooking) to de-glaze a pan.
