One of battle royale game Fortnite’s many features in Chapter 5 have caused the community to question Epic’s decisions. The recently introduced Match Quests, however, have really caused the Fortnite faithful to ask what the game’s developers are thinking.

In a thread simply entitled ‘Match Quests be like’ by TonyDML, a number of players on the Fortnite subreddit have noted some of the absurd challenges they’ve been set by the game in these quests, which task players with objectives that must be completed within that specific match. While the image presented – offering such challenges as ‘Get a Victory Royale with 21 kills’ and Cut down 2 trees’ is photoshopped, it’s a good indication of how random and disparate some of these challenges appear to be, swinging from the ludicrously easy to the ridiculously hard.

Some users have offered their own least favourite ridiculous challenges. “The emote while 10m away from an enemy in No Build Ranked 💀💀💀” – says VortexTalon. “I like the concept but some of them are so stupid. There’s hit 3 headshots with an AR, and then there’s get a society medallion 😭” responds nodyrisa1 – with others still saying how they think these fictional quests would end up manifesting in the game “The get a win with 21 kills would say 0/22” – posits IllTemperedMaggot.

It seems like the Match Quests aren’t overly popular with many members of the community, especially in the way they have replaced the former daily quests. “The fact that it’s only 1 per match is the main reason I dislike playing or irks me so much when playing the game,” says Neeralazra. “Yeah, it takes so much longer to do all 3 now,” elaborates _Samus. “If I’m in a rush I’ll usually just finish one and then kill myself as I’m now having to spend at least 30 minutes or so to finish all 3, sometimes longer if I’m unlucky enough to get killed early.” Nobeliumraniumz is to the point: “I hate this new match quest system. i liked it the old way where you had 3 daily quests and they would have 3 to choose from and get a new one upon completing one of them.”

It’ll remain to be seen whether Epic decides to stick with the new Match Quests system, or gives the missions another overhaul for the next season. But at least with the addition of Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing and Fortnite Festival, players have more options to pick from when it comes to quests and levelling up their battle pass.
