A recent Madden 24 kicking mistake, which shouldn’t have been a mistake in many’s eyes, has the community upset. The kicker in question may have been a punter by trade, but a perfect accuracy short field goal came nowhere close to the uprights. It was a terrible kick that many in the community believe shouldn’t have happened.
Madden 24 kicking mistake gets players talking
This Madden 24 user shared to Reddit a clip of them perfectly nailing all the mechanics of a field goal, which was about 33 yards in length. By no means is that a long field goal. In the NFL, that’s as much of a guarantee as anything. They had the right kick power, the direction was correct, and the user impressively nailed the accuracy despite the tiny bar. Instead, the kicker completely shanked it, sending it at least 15 yards to the right of the upright.
Many commenters piled on. While some pointed out that the player was technically a punter, the overwhelming majority believe it shouldn’t have mattered. u/SpastikPenguin said , “In real life there are definitely punters who would be closer on a field goal than that. Heck Doug Flutie could kick a field goal.”
The original poster also pointed out that they just signed a pretty well rated kicker, so there’s no reason for a field goal to be attempted by anything other than the kicker. This is a kicking issue as much as a depth chart issue, which had a punter kicking field goals for some reason.
u/PepsiOrCokeOk added, “Most punters were kickers in college or in high school, who are more than capable of hitting a 30 yarder. It’s not like they shank kick-offs.” Another player noted that ultimately, the accuracy and power should be the determining factor. If the inputs are right, it should at least come close.
u/luciusetrur joked, “That miss is so clean kicker was paid off and he didn’t even try to hide it.” u/TallWindow6346 added, “It’s not even like it curved, bro just kicked it straight to the right. Wind wasn’t the factor here. Rigged asf.” One user noted that this has happened even when they had a good kicker properly positioned in the depth chart, which leads them to believe it could be a glitch.
For what it’s worth, when we logged into Madden, there was an issue there as well. The kick direction line was completely missing on both field goal attempts, so there may be a glitch EA needs to patch.
