Today Ubisoft fully revealed the new season coming to its popular multiplayer tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, titled “Operation Deep Freeze.”
Operation Deep Freeze will release on the live servers on November 28 and the test server will launch tomorrow, November 13.
Of course, the lion’s share of the new season is taken by the new operator,Tubarão, hailing from Portugal. He is equipped with a freezing canister containing liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen, capable of freezing anything (or anyone) it hits. Enemies will be slowed down and leave frozen footsteps.
Interestingly, the footsteps are also visible on the ceiling below you, which means that enemies would be able to shoot you through the floor. Gadgets will also be disabled or paused.
You can see him in action below.
The developers also introduced the new map “The Lair” portraying a Deimos base.
Interestingly, the game will also get AI bots. For now, players will be able to play attackers against defender operators in bomb defusal mode. Still, in future seasons the AI will get more operators to pick from and will be available to play on the attack instead of just defense.
Full controller remapping is coming alongside improvements for the leaning behavior, albeit this will arrive later in the season. New player onboarding is also getting some relevant changes including a feature that lets players explore maps.
That being said, Situations and Training Grounds will be removed. On the other hand, more updates will come to the shooting range to help out both new players and veterans.
We learn that the shield rework has been pushed back to year 9 season 1, but a test server will go live during the span of Operation Deep Freeze to let players test the changes.
Another feature that will officially come in year 9 season 1 is the Marketplace, which will let players sell unwanted skins and buy them (for Rainbow Six credits). That being said, a beta version will be released in Operation Deep Freeze and you can register at the official site.
Last, but not least (or perhaps least if you’re not interested in collaborations), two new skins are available now in collaboration with Street Fighter 6, Grim as Ryu and Ying as Chun Li.
You can also watch the whole livestream showcasing all the changes below.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is currently playable on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The current season “Operation Heavy Mettle” is still active for a couple of weeks, if you’ve missed it, you can take a look at its reveal from the summer.
