The Modern Warfare 3 hype train has slightly died down in the past few weeks following several high-profile releases. However, the excitement surrounding Activision’s next series installment has begun ramping up once again after their recent announcement stating that they, along with Sledgehammer Games, would be adding a total of six 6v6 maps during the first two seasons of the game.

With the Modern Warfare 3 release date now only a handful of weeks away, players were predictably ecstatic upon hearing of the publisher’s plans, as many within the community had long been pleading for additional 6v6 support. According to a tweet from CharlieIntel, MW3 Season 1 will introduce three new 6v6 maps. This will then be followed by the addition of three more 6v6 maps in the next season, so the MW3 maps list is shaping up to be one of the series’ biggest in recent history.

Unfortunately, details on what these maps are or what they’ll look like remain scarce as the launch of Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 is still quite far off. However, these new locations and the 16 core 6v6 and four Ground War maps at launch ensure an exciting and unique experience each time you load up a new match. Based on the areas set to be included upon the game’s release, though, you can probably expect the developers to introduce more revamped maps from previous installments.

Player reactions towards Activision’s statements have largely been positive, as one user said: “God, isn’t it incredible what happens when [the developers] listen?” However, only time will tell if these new maps will live up to the hype.
